Joining the Atom club!
Joining the Atom club!
Morning all, i'm Dan, new forum member, club member, and Atom owner!
Yesterday was a great day - i took the sleeper train down to Cornwall to collect my new Atom. You may well have seen it on here before, it was previously owned by @mypresenttome and it's a beauty!
I've been looking for the right one for a while - while i definitely see the appeal of super and turbocharged Atoms, i fell for the induction sound of the naturally aspirated motor, and also figured it'd (marginally) reduce the likelihood of me retaining my license...
I've always bought cars and enjoyed modding them, but in this case it's staying exactly as it is, an my plans are to look after it, track it, take it on long road trips, trips to the supermarket, collecting the christmas tree in it, and generally enjoy the madness that is Atom ownership...
My inaugural drive was a 4 hour trip from Liskeard to Buckinghamshire, and i loved every minute of it. Super quick, surprisingly comfy. The sun came out too, which i took as a sign that the Atom gods were looking after me! Huge props to @mypresenttome for keeping it in such great condition, i'll make sure it's looked after, and i'm looking forward to being part of the community.
Dan

Re: Joining the Atom club!
Congratulations Dan. I have seen it a couple of times when I have been up to Castle Motors over the Summer and it looked in beautiful condition.
I'm sure you'll have some great times in it.

Welcome Dan. You should join us on the Ariel UK/Euro trips. Great fun in a bunch!

Awesome, congrats Dan. There's certainly something special about the scream of that naturally aspirated engine. Enjoy!

Re: Joining the Atom club!
I missed out on this in June When mypresenttome was selling.
Shame the dealer who bought it flipped it.
Looked a great car.

Congratulations. I recently bought the yellow atom 4 from castle motors. Found them great to deal with. I’m in Buckinghamshire as well

Re: Joining the Atom club!
Howdy chaps, I’ve also recently joined the world of Ariel Atom ownership and looked at both your cars online.
I purchased the black/yellow Atom 4 that was advertised privately in mid September. I’m in Brackley. Give me a shout if you fancy a drive out.

I enquired on this one as well. The seller had agreed to sell it to you just before I called. Congratulations on your acquisition it looked like a really good one. I'm up for meeting in the spring.Big_bird31 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:50 pm Howdy chaps, I’ve also recently joined the world of Ariel Atom ownership and looked at both your cars online.

Re: Joining the Atom club!
Nothing mad about a two week drive down to Italy via Switzerland, in fact the best way to use an Ariel car. Looking forward to the next euro drive.

Re: Joining the Atom club!
Euro drive sounds fab! I'm using the Atom most days - gun sights are way more effective than i'd thought, but i bit the bullet and ordered a full screen and side panels from the factory last week. I realise that may verge on cheating in Atom circles, but i'll be at the Nurburgring at least once next year, Le Mans, and hopefully the Swiss Alps (especially after seeing the photo above!), and i expect the screen will make those longer journeys a bit more comfortable!
First track day booked at Bedford on November 22nd - can't wait!

The full windscreen is THE way to go unless you enjoy a helmet. I can drive on the highway with a baseball cap and not even have it blow off my head. It really makes the car civilized. And the clear (or tinted) side panels make the car feel a bit more cozy too.

Update: Had my first track day in the 245 at Bedford this week. What a great day, and what a great car!
Main takeaway is managing Understeer. Being so light, it was really fun trying to manage the car's natural habit of understeering into corners, and driving it on the throttle to get it pointing the right way out of the corners. It's a totally different beast to the caterham, and needs more skill to drive it well. That'll take me some time to learn but i'll enjoy trying! Another track day booked, at Bedford again, next Friday to see if i can learn some more!
