Italy trip - 2018
Re: Italy trip - 2018
All, apologies, as discussed on the Italia 2018 WhatsApp group chat, I am going to have to postpone my trip, as I can't make these dates. Most likely into 2019. The routes and hotels are already established, and can be used by those who still wish to go. I need to refine the routes slightly which I will do when the alpine passes open, and post them onto the MyRouteApp.
Re: Italy trip - 2018
Still going and looking forward to full trip. So how many are still going?
Re: Italy trip - 2018
Are any of you guys going to the Ariel Mid Summer Gas 22/23/24 June?
Re: Italy trip - 2018
Its been a bit quiet but the Italy trip 2018 is still going ahead, with a few less Atoms going but will still be an epic adventure. We are still going to follow the route that was planned by Graeme, as it is a great route taking in some fantastic passes in Switzerland, Italy and France. Will be posting about the trip with hopefully lots of pictures as and when. If all goes well will be planning another trip next year hopefully with a few more Atoms joining us in 2019.
Re: Italy trip - 2018
Hi Rob, thats great. I still plan to follow the same route in 2019, maybe with a few mods. I will try and complete the routes on my route app site. it will be good to get your feedback on the routes. Wish I was going with you, but just can't do it this year.
Next year may include parts of Austrian Alps, and Italian Dolomites
cheers
Graeme

Re: Italy trip - 2018
As mentioned on Italia 2018 WhatsApp chat group Ive now completed the last few edits of the routes for this tour. All on Myroute-app in the Ariel club tours group under Italia 2018.
I need to add some commentary which is easier here than in WhatsApp, and besides some of those not going may be interested.
Firstly, its up to you if you use all, some or none of these, as unfortunately I can't do it this year. They are researched and recommended routes, so should be an awesome trip. However I am sure they can be improved with new information or recommendations.
Days 1 & 2 through France to Switzerland
Thomas_fr in France did make a suggestion to meet up with you on route and perhaps include a tour of part of champagne route. We haven't spoken since. You may want to PM him about this? Alternatively you could do this on the return trip?
Day 5
You will see that this route is still incomplete. For some reason Myroute-app will not allow me to route over the Gavia pass. Im sure you can still drive that route
Day 6
I had thought of changing this route slightly to come down the western side of lake Garda and include the Starda della Forra, one of the worlds most famous drives. But it might be challenging due to the width of Atom in parts of the pass. I will leave it up to you. I think I will drive it next year.
Day 7
Ive updated routing to follow Oskys suggestion around Bologna
Days 9 and 10
I had intended to review these as there are so many great places to visit in this part of Italy, many of which Osky has suggested. Not all included. It depends what your focus is? The current routes are more focused as driving routes rather than site seeing. You can change that if you wish
Day 11
This route included the Genoa bypass, which following this weeks sad news about the bridge collapse means you will have to re-route. I haven't done that but leave it to you to decide which revised route you will take.
Day 13
Again for some reason Myroute-app wouldn't let me route of Col d'izoard. So start from La Chalp (hotel) then head over the Col to way point 1. Also this is a very long day. Apologies, when I couldn't route over the french alpine passes, I estimated the distances. Clearly I got it wrong on this day the complete route is about 250 miles. It will be a long, but spectacular drive through the French Alps. The route end points are based on previously advised accommodation.
Thats it. Have a safe trip. I wish I was going with you. Look forward to the pictures and feedback so we can do it next year

Re: Italy trip - 2018
Hi Roger
Atom Italy 2018 is still a go and you are welcome to join us any where on route to drive with the group.
On Monday 27th we will be in Interlaken I believe Rob G is staying at hotel Alphorn and Rob R and myself are booked into the Crystal a few meters away.
On Tuesday 28th August we are all in Arabella Hotel Waldhuss, Davos, which looks stunning.
On Wednesday 29th August some are in the hotel Luise, and Rob R and myself are just down the street in Hotel Mirage by the lake.
On Thursday 30th August we are all staying at Hotel Maranello place, Maranello.
We will look out for, let us know where we will meet you place and time on Monday 27th August?
