Question about the spare wheel carrier
Question about the spare wheel carrier
Does anyone here know how the spare wheel is fitted to the carrier?
Does the carrier have a central spindle sticking up that the wheel is screwed down onto, or is the carrier just a flat x-frame and the something 'hooks' through the wheel onto the frame?
This is the best image I can find (https://postimg.org/image/sul81vawz/) and still can't figure out it :-(
Thanks in advance.

Re: Question about the spare wheel carrier
The mount has a central frame which the spare wheel is then bolted onto using two wheel nuts, very easy to remove the wheel if required. Sorry I haven't got any pictures of it!

Re: Question about the spare wheel carrier
I as going to attached a couple of alternative views of Russ's Nomad but for some reason I get a status error "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached"
WTF does that mean? I thought the image upload facility was going to be completely changed within the new forum to enable us to post more, bigger and better images.
Anyway, happy to email them if you need them

Re: Question about the spare wheel carrier
Thanks Adrian.
I'd never say no to more pics of a Nomad, but I have what I was looking for at the mo.
It seems 'Operation Delivery Van' may just work!
The factory is going to knock up a spare wheel carrier without the central spindle so that I can bolt on a motorbike case, although I'm tempted with a Domino's Pizza box...
Happy to post some pics once it's all together - assuming the forum lets me ;-)

Re: Question about the spare wheel carrier
So a quick update, in case anyone out there finds this interesting. God knows I spent ages scouring the Interweb for ideas...
Spare wheel carrier, less sticky up spindle, arrived from the factory today:
Measured and drilled 4 holes, primed with grey paint (all I had to hand):
Givi E251 universal Monokey mounting plate attached:
Ready for the box to arrive (Givi TRK33B on order):
At the moment, I am building this blind 'cos I don't actually own a Nomad, but there should be wiggle room to move the plate up or down a cm or two if need be when it all comes together.
The lengths some people will go to to keep their jam sandwiches dry and secure...

Kezzie, most of the limits have now been lifted off you want to post the pictures...teething settings.

Re: Question about the spare wheel carrier
The box has arrived!
At least I'll have somewhere to carry a can of tyre weld, just in case I get a puncture

Neat solution, congrats.

Re: Question about the spare wheel carrier
Thanks Hedge. Just hope it doesn't look daft when it's fitted.
The box is big enough to store the removable steering wheel. Not that locking your steering wheel in the boot is in any way daft of course...

Re: Question about the spare wheel carrier
So just to bring this thread to a close, here are some pics with it all in place.
In all honesty, I wish the box was little wider / deeper, but I am pleased with the height not sticking up over the roof line.
It is easy to remove (lockable) to get the engine cover off and check oil level etc. and it does a good job of keeping jam sandwiches dry.
Cheers.

So the car was in for it's first service today and because I was a good boy, I was given a sticker.
