Internal Server Errors
Internal Server Errors
Are other noticing frequent "Internal Server Error" messages while browsing the forums? I tend to load a forum index, load each topic I'm interested in as a tab so they can load in the background. It seems like if I try loading four articles one or two of them fail to load. I also am seeing frequent issues loading embedded images, likely due to the same issue. If I try loading the image into a new window, it comes up fine.
Just curious if others are seeing this.

Yes. I'm also noticing it on a completely unrelated site which is also running the SMF forum software - http://forum.phathack.com.
I don't know if there's some bug that's cropped up in the SMF software or if people are trying to attack sites running SMF. I sent email a couple days ago to webmaster@atomclub.com (as directed in the Internal Server Error message).

Re: Internal Server Errors
i very often notice internal server errors, sometimes not available for minutes.
apart from that, I';ve noticed for some time that pictures don't load...some do and some don't, If I refresh again some do and some don't. So if I want to see a specific picture i have to either refresh untill I see the picture I want, or click on the link underneath and open it in a seperate screen...Am I alone in this one?

Re: Internal Server Errors
I get lots of server errors and most pictures don't load. I tend to use IPad to view forum and I assumed these were some compatibility issues.

Particularly in the last week, loads of Internal Server Errors, pictures not displaying requiring right click and 'Show Picture'.

Searching the forum for the SMF software, I didn't particularly see a report of this that was an intermittent issue. Most reports seemed to be an all or nothing issue. It looks like this is something that the forum admins (with access to the web logs will need to investigate). If the log entries don't make sense, post them here or PM/e-mail me.
My gut feeling is that there is an issue that is making it so the web server in only able to process (for example) 10 requests simultaneously. When you load a page with images, the browser fires off a bunch of parallel downloads to speed up the download. Some of these requests are over the limit and fail to load. In addition, if several other people are actively browsing the forums, it would be easier to hit this limit. We're running a version of SMF that is over a year old, so I doubt a new bug has recently been introduced. There is a point release (2.0.2), which was released December 2011, but the changelog doesn't mention this issue. I suspect a local config issue...

Re: Internal Server Errors
I have posted a ticket to the web host, as it looks like over loading of the shared server.

Re: Internal Server Errors
I have requested a server change from our host and this has been done. But you will not notice any change until Piers has changed the name servers. I will report back when this has been done.

Re: Internal Server Errors
I'm new to the forum and have also regularly got internal server error messages. If I click backwards in the browser and then try again, the page will often load properly the second time.
I also get the same problem with pictures - the majority do not load and I have to click on the file name immediately underneath to specifically view the image. I thought this was done on the site for some technical reason (speed or website starage but I'm no web expert).
I'm viewing on a standard PC running the latest Windows OS and viewing with Google's Chrome browser so its not a compatibility issue linked to Ipads / Iphones.
