Having just been to Brands for the BTCC and Clio Cup today, god only knows why anyone bothers watching F1.
So evenly matched and competitive it's amazing as a spectacle.
F1 is the equivalent of heavyweight boxing.......the most popular, but really not the most interesting to watch

I'd have them pretty much as is, with the following mods:

1)  Points for pole.
2)  Points for fastest lap.
3)  Emphasis shift from aero to mechanical grip.
4)  Add a big oval (just 1).

I'm really not sure that I understand the question here.

Are we coming up with just a single set of rules that everyone needs to follow?

Or or we coming up with a single set of rules that everyone (including Ferrari) need to follow, but Ferrari will ignore anyway, and then the FIA will jump in and say that Ferrari have a long-standing exemption anyway, and the rules were never meant for them, and then give us a big fine to help Ferrari pay for their development and testing, that were banned anyway, but they needed to do it because all their cars kept burning up, which was probably someone else's fault as the other guys were using defusers that meant that Ferrari couldn't win and their Mommy said they were gonna win this time.

Just wondering...

Get rid of the seamless gear changes, they make such a horrid sound

Use of slick tyres returned in 2009 ...

I'd ban automatic, sequential and paddle shift gearboxes.
Allow slicks.
Ban major aero devices.
Allow as much power as the team can extract from the specified engine capacity with no limit on development.
Require refuelling and tyre changes.
Have an independent rule setting authority.

Perfect set of rules, back to what it was like from 1996 onwards.

Remove the wings and no restrictions on ground effect aero. They have to remove the dirty air problem one way or another to allow racing.

Most of the suggestions above would not lead to close racing ie a load of new regs is going to be a gamble and favour the big budget teams. What was so wrong with the regs over the last 2 years?

Maybe an independent body assesses (ex drivers) what are the key factors for close racing that allow at least two overtaking possibilities per lap minimum. That IMO would require a very long straight (only currently on a few circuits) to allow slip streaming and changes to aero to allow slip streaming to work.

I would also prpose that all top tier, big budget teams have to have a driver over 15 stone whilst new, low budget teams have a min driver weight of 6 stone

I like the idea of the claimer rule...and I'd give it teeth by making it similar to the LeMons "Peoples Curse" award.  If a team's car breaks the rules, it gets penalized in a bad way.

I would like the following F1 rules:
- global standard of 2.0L 4-cyl unrestricted turbo motors for all open wheel international motorsport. Makes the move towards greener more fuel efficient racing. 2.0L turbo motors will be great for development for road cars and would attract multiple car companies
- Turbo button of about 100hp, only to be used 15 times per race. Having turbos makes this very easy to modulate and control.
- single flap front and rear wings to decrease turbulence
- simple diffusers, no DDD diffusers, to decrease turbulence
- agressive tire performance and wear
- more street course racing, always more entertaining!

Personally I think 2012 when the new Indycar will come out, and when the current F1 Concorde Agreement expires, is when massive rule changes need to be implemented. 2012 should be the focus for both series.

^ I like it.  However,It will be very difficult to monitor spending.Maybe have a claimer rule. Yikes.  :H:     and...make it pay...nothing! Yes. You win,and all you get is a trophy and bragging rights. That will limit what someone is willing to spend. Win on sunday, sell on Monday. That is what the byproduct of racing victories used to be. Not all about corporate sponsorships, logos all over everything...money has ruined racing..to the point where it implodes, and becomes..boring.Regulated,restricted..official this or that... run what you brung! The best team wins! :tu:

-All cars must fit within a specified box for length/width (with size approximating street cars), but no height requirements.
-Cars must be driver controlled for all driving functions (steering/brakes/accelerator) -- the spirit of this is to prevent computer driven cars.
-No upper limit on horsepower, rpm, displacement, fuel capacity, or rubber compounds
-Active aero/ABS/electrical propulsion/regenerative braking/etc is okay (encourage the use of new technology, so long as driver remains a driver).

I wanna see crazy hypertechnological super machines in which nearly anything goes...something that makes the Can-Am/Trans-Am unlimited cars of the early 70's look like secretary cars.  Unlimited crazy stuff!  I wanna see the next level of bizarre stuff making it onto the track, this century's version of the Chaparall cars.

Oh, and only limit the funding for the cars to allow for more privateer participation.  Something arbitrary like 1 million per car or something like that.  That'll throw an element of "24 Hours of Lemons" into it (Lemons, not LeMans)

Identical cars...christ may as well have them all driving Priuses.

I HATE spec racing. It is SO BOoooooooooooooooooooooooooring!! A giant pack of cars on track, just waiting for someone to have misfortune so someone can actually PASS someone else.. :P

Remember when building your own car was all part of racing?? Now,everyone has to be equal.. ::) ::) ::) ::)

How about some minimal requirements concerning safety and let the cards fall where they may.. and let the mechanics/engineers  actually BUILD something different and exciting! >:D >:D >:D >:D
