Nope. Dover is a hole.

However, there are lots of nice places on the drive to Crewkerne...

Anything called Mom's or Home avoid...

are the TGIF's as good as in the US? Any on the way?

They make great margaritas and cheese nachos!

Whilst it would be correct to say they are as good as they are in the US that is not exactly a ringing endorsement IMO!

If you can hang on wait until you are past the M3 before stopping for lunch or you are bound to get Motorway service type food which will be poo.  Having said that I am looking forward to a Ginsters Pasty at Fleet Services.

As ever, amazed how threads veer off topic within a couple of posts.

I usually think as I drive past stonehenge that Atoms and it would be a great picture.

Rob.

Ouch! I was born and bred in Dover. Come to think of it, Bruce has summed it up pretty well :)

If you do want to eat in Dover they have developed the Marina at the Western Docks (1 mile from the Eastern Docks Ferry Terminal) and that is genuinely nice.

Also if the weather is good you can head up onto the cliffs and have lunch with a good view of La Manche (National Trust.)

M20 is the best route to the M25 but if you don't mind a detour take the A2 to Canterbury which is very nice by The Cathedral.

Cheers,

Stu

I was in Dover for lunch only last week and I can confirm that it is indeed a complete pit.
Avoid!
(sorry Stu).

I promise you if you want a fight with a bunch of Afghans or squaddies or dockers/ex miners there is no finer place on Earth. If not then you are probably best to keep your foot down (and don't leave your Atom unattended!)

Don't worry Hedge, none taken ;D

Cheers,

Stu

Bit like Umm Qasr (one of my very favourite quotes)...

"Umm Qasr is a town similar to Southampton", UK Defence Minister Geoff Hoon told the House of Commons yesterday. "He's either never been to Southampton, or he's never been to Umm Qasr", said one British soldier, informed of this while on patrol in Umm Qasr. Another added: "There's no beer, no prostitutes, and people are shooting at us. It's more like Portsmouth."

Steady on there Bruce ;D

Mr X, you are welcome to pop in at our gaff in South London on Friday Pm for some grub.  I will be getting home from Portsmouth around 2pm.
Going from Dover to Crewkerne I personally would follow the coast road and go past the two reported "Umm Qasr" of the Uk.  A longer journey time wise but much more interesting than Motorways

You may wish to avoid this to avoid spoiling Sunday's convoy which will follow much of this advice.
