Let's build the Atom 4 !
Many of the folks on this forum have great ideas for improving their Atom (be it 1, 2, or 3). If AAOC members could design the '4', what changes would you make?
For me, I'd start with the lights. LED all around. Self cancelling turn signals. Top of the line head lights.
How about ABS? Added weight to the car, but I read that the 2-11's have been beating us in the corners, due to their ABS?
Keep the same look, or re-shape to improve aerodynamics. More body panels?
Keep the same engine (I love Honda), or is there a better engine out there?

Work in progress on the lights already. Trying to source some quality parts. Keep you posted if you like
Re: Let's build the Atom 4 !
Please do! The ones posted by Monza look fantastic as well.
Re: Let's build the Atom 4 !
I've not seen. I'll have to look later. I need dimentions of the front light bar so i can get my head round a few ideas. Diameter of tube and length before the bar bends. For mounting purposes.

Mechanical/Electrical
-LED lighting: Yes
-Brammo styled headlights: I'm very satisfied with mine. Once they're properly adjusted, they work great!
-ABS: No
-Ensure the exhaust system will last
-Stronger rear uprights/bearings
-Switch to a 4x100 hub setup to make lots more wheel setups available
-Establish a relationship with Rays Engineering and use the model TE-37 wheel of the correct size/offset for the Atom.
-Brammo style adjustable A-Arms, Brammo style lower ball joints on front lower A-Arms. I think Brammo got this right.
Aero stuff:
-Louvered front fenders...reduce lift up front
-Similar molded seat, but with ability to remove the top rear portion of the passenger side (or ability to remove the entire passenger side of the seat). It would be nice if the seat sat even lower in the tub to get a lower CG
-Passenger side tonneau cover. When paired with side panels this would make the whole car more aerodynamically efficient & help with top end speed.
-Integrated winglets to span the tubes on the lower A-Arms up front...and turn turbulence into downforce.
I really think the Atom is just so close to perfection that most of the ideas I've come up with are probably best suited for the aftermarket.

Three days of on track instruction should be included/offered at VIR.. including it's care and maintenance.. and I don't mean threshold braking exercises.. or send us to Skip Barber..
*cough* retro for current owners...
oh.. and sound like this

Re: Let's build the Atom 4 !
Truth is, I think everyone does build their own 'Atom 4' or whatever as soon as they start to change whatever comes as standard.
Mine isn't a true Atom 2 as it has masses of non-stock stuff on it.
If I could change one major thing for the better it would be...
...er...
...um...
...give me a minute...
OK. Make it completely maintenance-free

The drive by wire throttle on the new civic Type r is a step backward. Whats it like on the atom 3?
Re: Let's build the Atom 4 !
How about factory built (or factory authorized) performance and appearance retrofit options?
Wider section wheels for competition tires
Side pod kit (a'la Atom 500) where we can mount radiator/oil cooler/aftercooler, etc.
Exhaust header options
Aero options
Lighting options
Bodywork options (IE: wider and/or ventilated fenders)

I think they have enough on their plate just trying to build the cars that are ordered. Good idea cobra!
Re: Let's build the Atom 4 !
Do you think Simon will move some of the '500' technology over to the '4"?

Re: Let's build the Atom 4 !
I want a cloaking device that is activated by the speed camera notifications on my Tom Tom.
Could be something of a problem if it stays on though.

First Atomised 2001.
Atom (165) > Atom 2 (220) > Atom 3 (300) > Atom 3.5 (310) > Atom 4 (350).
There is no cure.

Shame that 10 years ago nobody asked for 'quick turn around times', but interesting to look back nonetheless.
