What is this plastic part?

Post by Paros » Tue Jul 16, 2013 1:17 pm

I found this plastic "part" under my engine after installing a new clutch.
Any idé what it can be (it looks like a small spark plug cap)?

are you sure it came from your car? It looks like a sparkplug cap of a moped...

I think it is a breather pipe cover that fits onto the gearbox housing.

If looking from the wheel toward the gearbox its position is at about 10 o'clock.

I know all this as about 20 minutes ago I was inspecting my car whilst the tyres were being changed and thought "I wonder what that part is".....

I agree that it seems to be a breather pipe, but whichone?
The breather pipe located just under the Cable that comes from the shiftlever has already a breather pipe that is slightly larger.
So, where does this belong?  :)

It looks similar to the gearbox breather but mine's rubber not plastic and as you say yours is still in situ. I can't think of anything on mine that looks like that. Maybe more pictures from different angles might help. Any metal contacts inside or just a lump of plastic?

I don't have anything like that on mine. I agree with Al what it looks like,  but having stripped my beast down to its bones over the winter,  I can't think where that might belong on a mk2 300

if this part is closed at one end, it's perhaps a part going in the butterfly area to close a "pipe".
