"Gun-sight" removal and refitting

Post by Peter255 » Tue Jul 05, 2016 1:47 pm

I am considering removing one of my gun-sights for a charity passenger ride day for two reasons:

1) Maximise the wind-in-the-face lunacy for the passenger.
2) Prevent it being used as a grab handle and being snapped off!

The two screws holding it on look to be plastic. ??? Anyone removed theirs before? Are they plastic or just coated? Are they re-usable? Clearly there is a fair bit of air pressure on the sights and I don't want them to detach (or looks messy).

Cheers

No problem to remove and refit!

Suspect they're nylon or similar - just don't overtighten them.

Have taken mine off a few times to clean them...no problem, just be gentle!!!

BTW, they make a BIG difference, keep them on so people enjoy the experience!

Having done a few charity, Supercar 4 Kidz days......you really need to have a helmet as a stone or fly/bee in the face can do some damage....in this HSE / legal claim world you can't be too careful.

I ran my car without the sights for a while to begin with, and as you say they make a MASSIVE difference. :o

I will check the situation regarding helmets etc, and insurance.

I have a few paintball masks which I could also use for the passengers.

they are plastic so make sure you use the correct size philips screwdriver  bit as they "round" very easily

This is exactly why I asked. Thanks for the confirmation. I am tempted to leave them tbh, as I don't want to mark them. The heads are highly visible.

I wonder why they used plastic screws. I guess it maybe looks better than a metal screw and a rubber washer. ???

It stops them from being over-tightened and damaging either the lexan gunsight or tea tray (or both).

I take mine off every time i clean the car, its a piece of cake you just need flexible fingers to get the nuts back on behind the dash. but don't be put off if you have a removable steering wheel its easy.
