Gumball 3000 Apr/May 2007

Post by Alec » Sun Nov 12, 2006 10:17 pm

I've always fancied taking part in the Gumball Rally.

Anyone have any views with regard to entering an Atom?

Pretty sure someone here did it this yearin their Atom - or at least a similar race.

A search should throw something up.

Thanks.

Looks like they did the Furball 5000, not the Gumball 3000. Two nights in France, though, was not what I had in mind.

For the future I must remember to do a search before I post a new subject, it might save me some time.

I'd love to but A) the entrance fee is £28,000 and B) you've gotta take the risk that you could end up in jail/loosing your passport to the police or worse writing your car off!

Most things in life have risks, thats why we do them like riding bikes and driving Atoms.

But doing the Gumball, just think how much fun it would be.

I did the www.cannonball8000.co.uk in September this year - Brussells - Prague - Budapest over three days.  The trip was the best fun and we're booked to do it again next - this time for charity.  I had also looked at the Gumball but the price is far too high.  The cannoball is along similar lines and several people on this years event had done the Gumball but found this years Cannonball far better.

There were numerous fines and several lost licences but i would recommend it to anyone, the cameradie was great.  Numerous knockon events happen over the year as well, for instance we've been invited to take the car to a Penthouse photoshoot next week  :o

You've got to be quick to see your Atom in that Vid on their site.

The Cannonball does look good, and cheap too. I'll give it some thought.

If you want any details let me know.  It would be cool to have two Atoms there - no body was as quick as us even fully laden.  There's 3 10 min videos on google if you're interested;

London - Brussells; http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 8021312985
Brussells - Prague; http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 7068913183
Prague - Budapest; http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?doc ... 9513180852

I'm afraid i can't do justice to the trip with the footage we managed to get  but the Police escort through the streets of Budapest was just amazing as was the party afterwards.

The only real problem we had was map reading  - tricky with no roof or windscreen :) and of course luggage space, the dinner suits did look a little worse for wear after a 1000 odd miles

The whole film is due out in December on ITV - there should be a bit more of the Atom in that we're told

You're not into Sat Nav then?

How did you manage to get dinner suits into the "Boot" under the bonnet (must be good at Origami)?

Satnavs fine until you're in the tunnells of Brussells looking for your hotel or streets of Prague with Police road blocks everywhere or indeed unchartered areas of Budapest and then you definately need a map.

All our gear was strapped to the side using water proof duffle bags from Hein Gericke - it's surprising how much you can actually take - enough changes of clothes for a week, party outfits and full DJ's - no problem

How many times did you wear the DJ?  If it was once then you should have posted it to the hotel and got the to press it for you arrival! (A bit James Bond, but you would have had all the other drivers wondering how you managed to look so well dressed.  :D

We had thought about posting stuff to the hotels but was concerned whether we would actually get there to wear it.  The old trick of hanging it in a steamy shower worked a treat - we still looked cool.

Alec,

Just to let you know FHM have released their first episode of the Cannonball, they're updating it every week with a new episode over the next eight weeks.  Take a look, it might sway you to join us next year.

I've just been told ITV1 are also airing their film on the 28th November.

Just watched FHM and will keep an eye out for the rest, including ITV. Certainly looks as much fun as the Gumball from what I've seen up to now.

By the way, nice shades.

It's gotta be more fun than the gumball and the funs just starting again..... the Penthouse photoshoot has been confirmed for Monday next week and we're being interviewed with pictures of us and naked girls all over the car - it's gotta be worth doing it just for that!
