The Pyrenees Trip 2016 : 24 June – 9 July

In 2016, Atom owners will be spoilt for choice when it comes to Alpine trips. There will be two!

Stuart (Wasp) is organising one for 10-19 June, down to northern Italy, on this thread:

http://www.atomclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,15948.0.html

Because his dates aren't suitable for some owners, we'll have another trip during the period 24 June – 9 July. The route and accommodation have yet to be decided, they'll be posted here once we've worked them out. Expect to enjoy some of the Pyrenees/Côte d'Azur/French Alps/Swiss Alps. It's still being planned.

If you want to keep up with the details, subscribe to this thread...

I'll be doing this one, I think, as I'm keen to have another crack at the Pyrenees - hopefully in better weather and with a starter motor that works! Especially this road, which I discovered by accident, but is just amazing. The A1604 is possibly the best road I have ever driven. 48k of twisties, constant bends, elevation changes, blind crests and virtually no one else on the road. I think it's now just about my favourite road. I could have spent all day doing it. There's a link to a video here. (Be warned, it's 12 minutes long and will make you feel queasy, but it is spectacular.)

I'll try to organize my work to "intercept" you during your Italian trip. So I can add another Atom for a part of the trip.

Hi, Osky

Stu's trip will be starting in Verona, so that might be closer to you?

You're very welcome to join ours, at any of the stages along the route.

Verona is about 140km far from Bologna, where I live.
It is very difficult, but I'll try to intercept both trips!  :vroom:

Bruce, hopefully starter motor will be fine, it was this that caused your late departure when we did similar trip a few years ago?

You have another new one now so all should be well.

If you are looking for recommendations.  I did a med and Pyranees trip this year.  The best bit was the drive from the med we stayed in a place called Cadaques just inside Spain, into the Pyranees along the N260.

Cadaques  is an interesting small fishing village with different history, great atmosphere and restaurants.  Excellent drive along the med down from France

The N260 up towards Vielha and the French border had some great roads with spectacular scenery.  When I finally get an Atom I will visit there again.

Hi Osky,

We'll be arriving in Verona on 11th June, then heading for a loop around Monza, Lake Como and the Stelvio Pass I think. Leaving Verona again on the 18th. If you fancy hooking up at any point just let me know.

Cheers,
Stu

Thanks, Digger. We'll look into Cadaques as a possible stop. It depends on how we plan the route for this one.

I suggest to arrive at the Stelvio pass from Prato allo Stelvio, I think is the best way.
I done it last year. Spectacular!
Finger cross about the weather ... the firs of June isn't the best date for the Stelvio ...

One pic from last July

Thanks for the information, it's good to have knowledge from people who have been before.
I definitely have my fingers crossed for the weather!
