Tour de Brittany 7th-10 May 2015
Tour de Brittany 7th-10 May 2015
Hi all,
As part of the 10 year anniversary of the Atom Club, Steve Gibson and myself are organising a long weekend road trip to Brittany. The trip is open to anyone who wants to come, wives, girlfriends, sons daughters etc are all very welcome.
If you have never taken your Atom into Europe and particularly France then I can't recommend it enough. The roads are brilliant and empty and the Atoms are always greeted with a great smile by the French people.
The outline for the itinerary is as follows,
Thursday 7th May 2015
Depart Portsmouth 2015 on the 'Bretagne'
Arrive St Malo 0815
Friday 8th May
Head South, South West for some Forest style roads or the coast in search of some sunshine
Night in hotel
Saturday 9th May
Much of the same, route to be worked out
Sunday 10th May
Slowish start and make our way to Caen for return journey to Portsmouth on the Mont St Michel.
Depart 1630
Arrive 2115
The cost for crossings is £400 ish to include a cabin both directions.
Work on 100 euros for Friday and Saturday nights.
Fuel, food, booze.
I am sure I have missed something but this is to anyone interested in coming the dates etc.
Routes, hotels etc to follow when we get an idea of numbers.
Don't be put off by the overnight ferry going out, it really breaks the travelling up and is very sociable (bar). Decent nights sleep, breakfast and sensible arrival time in France. Cuts out hours of motorway driving if you were to do euro tunnel.
Regards
Julian & Steve

Re: Tour de Brittany 7th-10 May 2015
Just realised what day May 7th is. General Election.
I wonder if we should make this 8-11th instead?

I don't think it needs to be changed. Polling stations open early. Ferry is not until 2015.
I also, as an example postal vote in advance of the day.
Doesn't affect people's chance to vote.

If anyone wants any input into the route or hotels (Friday 8th and Saturday 9th night), please add it here. Julian and I will be meeting early next week (w/c March 16th) to do a bit of planning.

Would strongly recommend a night in Loheac. Great car museum, whole town is car crazy and I might be able to get a deal on using the circuit for a few hours if anyone fancies it.

I would be all for building that town and museum into the tour. I think we have been there before when I first went with you all when Bruce organised, also last year or year before. We watched GP one year and had food on the pavement outside the other. If it's the same place we ate at, it was a smallish hotel with parking behind gates at the rear?
Not a bad place to stay if I am right.

Fellas,
We got all excited and then checked, It's the Army/Navy Rugby fixture on Saturday the 9th. We would so much have liked to go to France but alas a massive piss up beckons.

Bugger! We'll have to try and make sure you can make another weekender. You are free, of course, to have a massive piss-up in Brittany with us, if you'd like to.

Re: Tour de Brittany 7th-10 May 2015
OK - our hotels are:
Friday 8 May
La Gibeciere
Loheac
£50 a night
Saturday 9 May
Nouvel Hotel
Bagnoles-de-l'Orne
£48 a night
The first gives us a good rural drive of about 90 miles from the ferry down to Loheac that has a magnificent car museum. The second gives us another rural drive east of about 110 miles into a national park, with a lunch stop on the way. Both have free on-site parking. Then north to Caen on Sunday for the ferry home.
