'Sunday Drivers' - A weekend of the best roads in Wales - 6-7th July 2013
Re: 'Sunday Drivers' - A weekend of the best roads in Wales - 6-7th July 2013
Hi Gaz,
Glad to hear you're thinking of coming along, the details of last year's trip are still on the forum, including various photographs and comments.
Basically the intention is to use the same route, which involves a 'figure of 8' starting at Pontypool on Saturday morning, having an overnight stop on the Gower peninsula and taking in such highlights as the Elan valley (mid Wales - the most Northerly point of the trip), the Devil's Staircase (between Beulah and Tregaron), Black Mountain Road, and, on the way home (Sunday), the Rhigos Mountain Road. (I'll try and send out some trip notes and GPS files nearer the time)
On the Saturday Night, we are staying in the Village of Llangennith, with several people being booked in at Bremmel Cottage B & B (01792 386308) - let the owners know you are on the AAOC trip if you want to stay there. Several other B&Bs in Llangennith although they are not always keen on people only wanting to stay for one night. There is also a Campsite nearby at Hill End.
If you need somewhere to stay in the Pontypool area on the Friday night, try Ty Shon Jacob Farmhouse, (01495 757536) which is meant to be excellent, but I would give a warning about its long and rather potholed Drive!
Don't hesitate to post any more questions.
Ben

Just over a week and a bit to go for this ....
Long range weather forecast is looking good so everyone keep your fingers crossed.
Any idea of numbers attending?
I know Ben, Tom, myself and Gaz are going but no one else has responded.
This was last year's trip http://www.atomclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,13521.0.html and we hope to replicate this again with maybe a few tweaks to the routes.

Gaz,
Last year me met up for 10am at Tesco's. We'll assume that this will be ok this year too.

Adrian is absolutely right, aiming for a 10am start.
I've attached some trip notes which may or may not be of use. I'm afraid the GPS files are giving me problems - we managed to avoid loosing anyone last year!

Ben,
I'll sort out the GPS files later and we can swap them over to anyone who needs them on the day via Bluetooth.
Failing that I'll have my laptop with me to do a hardware transfer if anyone has an old fashioned model.
Any ideas of final numbers attending?

Now this is a nice coincidence courtesy of Pistonheads ...
A little taster of the roads we'll be driving this weekend.
http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=159&i=28014
This particular section is on the itinerary for Sunday I think.
Weather forecast looks superb too so we should expect the waterproofs to remain packed away under the bonnet.
Adrian.
ps if anyone else fancies joining in we start from Pontypool Tesco car park 10ish on Saturday. Return route heads out of Llangeneth around 10ish on Sunday

Hi there,
I've only just found your thread (in my defence, only had my Atom 2 weeks!).
I'd like to join you on the Saturday if that's OK - I need to head back late Saturday so can't stay overnight but look forward to catching up in Tesco at 10am
Regards
John

John,
Goodo It'll be nice to see the car in the flesh.
I'm sure if you wanted to stay over night there might be the option for you to have Tom's room as he's wimped out! That's if it hasn't been been reallocated by the B&B.
Adrian
p.s. I'll PM you my mobile in case you get lost/delayed etc

Looks like we are up to 3 cars then! I think Tom is frightened of Wales.
We'll be on the 'Pistonheads' road at around 10.30 on Saturday - its the one which had the dead sheep on last year!
