Ah, but that's the point of the International Section! I'm afraid that to be truly international, we must learn to speak other languages. I know the Internet is mostly English, but the world isn't. (Actually, the world is mostly Chinese, but I don't have that character set...)

You could always start a thread in the most widely spoken lanuage in the southern states - or don't you speak Spanish? ;D

Nope the Mexican prescence only reached up to about San Antone back in the day. Instead I speak a mangled form of your Native tongue, .... English I think it's called. I guess if I was to be authentic I'd have to be speaking Apache or some other Southern tribes' native tongue.  ;D I was just hoping those people that do post might post in both, we could at least follow one half of the conversation. :)

It's just that there are people for whom a wholy English speaking forum would be difficult. I guess I'm trying to broaden the appeal by making the forum more friendly/freundlich/amicable on a global level.

Don't worry - I run out of languages in one or two's time...

However, for your benefit, this thread is mainly asking why there aren't any Atoms in Germany.

If you would like translations - this is a pretty good site:

And to answer g8kam, yes, I can speak a bit of Spanish and Italian, but they're both REALLY rusty and better after a few drinks

At least the Scots one can make out... I was just seeing people that obviously posted in English carrying on elsewhere. Figured pretty much everyone learned English as a second language.  Swiss friend said she learned it in school over there, said it was a amandatory class, even Japanese are teaching it in their schools. But you were doing French, they can't keep their cars from bursting into flames so maybe that's too much to ask.  ;D

Gi on - stretch yer sen. Try some ither lingo! See I can speak the non-sassernach, too! And while we're at it, why on earth call something as simple as SHOPPING bloody MESSAGES?

I'm quite 'relaxed' having just returned from a rather splendid party, so absolve myself of any responsibility for the sense or spelling of any posts until later on today!

And another thing - why do girls thing that guys are so complicated - I havd four thiis eveing coming to me with man problems, practically all of which could be sorted out by just asking the bloke a straight question!

Why in the world would a Female EVER ask a guy a straight question? If she did she wouldn't have someone to nag later on for not understanding her, not communicating with her, not "knowing' her because he's just a man!... you get the point.  :o

Hey everybody,

I have to admit that to my knowledge there still aren't any Atoms in Germany. As far as I know, both FOB (the dealer from Switzerland) and  Debussere (the dealer from Belgium) are trying to get a SVA for the Atom in Germany. The only problems with that are a. it is very costly b. it takes a pretty long time and c. the German TÃ?V generally tends to be a pain in the ass. So there is no way to know how long it will take until a Atom drives around with a German license plate and how it will look (I guess everybody knows the Atom with the yellow roll bar construction - that's what the TÃ?V tends to do to cool cars...)

Personally I am thinking about getting one and registering it in the UK, like Clive is planning to. I just don't know if this is going to work on the long run and you'd have to handle insurance etc. Can anybody provide feedback in this regard?

Hi Phil

Obviously it will require that you have a registering address in the UK and that when the car is old enough to warrant MOTs, you'll have to come over to the UK to have them done. Insurance shouldn't really be a problem either as I'm led to believe that there are a few UK insurers who will insure a car located for most of its time on the continent, however, whether they'll do a specialist car like the Atom, I don't know. (No use in trying to rely on a conventional policy that covers trips to the continent, as they will want proof of crossing the channel if something happens.)

Richard

PS. A good way to find out about said insurers is to sus out expat forums on the www.
