Greetings from Brisbane

Post by awalker » Fri Apr 07, 2006 1:08 pm

Just thought I would post a quick hello to all fellow Atom enthusiasts. Waiting patiently like the rest of you in Australia for compliance to be completed and for an Atom to be in my garage.

Regards Alastair

Hi Rick thanks for the welcome.

Will be over your way in a few weeks for the first time. Can you advise a nice hotel to stay at in Perth for a week for my wife and I ? I will need to go to Fremantle for a couple of meetings but will have plenty of time outside of that if you feel like chatting about the Atom over a beer or two let me know.

Regards Alastair

Hi Alastair - yikes sorry I missed this post!
Umm can't really recommend anything in Fremantle as I haven't really done anything down that way (I live in the hills)

I work on a mine site flyin-flyout but if you PM me or click on my email link I can work out if I'll be about in Perth or up on site.

Beer and talk of Atoms sounds good to me!

Hi there,

found this site and thought I'd say hi.  I'm moving to brisbane next year and am on the atom waiting list with open wheels.  Is that how you are getting yours ?  It doesn't seem at the moment as if the road approved atom is going to be available until early middle of next year and thats if you're right at the top of the list.  Is it a car that can be used in the hotter months of Queensland or am i going to be limited to weekend driving for half the year ?  Also can anyone give me a vague clue as to how where i'm gonna get insurance and how much that costs ?

Brisbane next year here I come and hopefully I'll have an atom not long after I arrive!

Hi Jake,

Yes on the waiting list as well, but I'm not sure how much longer I can wait, it does seem to be taking an extrodinarily long time to get the car ADR approved. I think the car will be great to drive year round here though you will probably want some sunscreen on in the middle of summer. As for insurance I will use Shannon's who I currently use for my cars and who are specifically setup for motoring enthusiasts and specialist sports cars. You can check them out at http://www.shannons.com.au/

Kind Regards

Alastair

Hi Alastair,

thanks for the response.  Great news that its going to be ok all year round, i did have doubts particularly after chatting to some friends that live out there at the moment.

Good luck with getting your atom, I'm 80th on the list so unfortunatly i think i have some wait ahead of me, particularly as Open Wheels is only getting 4/month.  It would be good to stay in touch so I can get tips on where to take the car for days out and maybe a track day or two if thats alright with yourself.

Thanks, Jake

Hi Jake, feel free to email me at quozl@swiftdsl.com.au I migrated here from Canada 18 years ago, brought here as a souvenier by my wife  ;D You'll really love Brisbane there is a great car / motorsport scene up here with a lot of different venues to run on all within a couple of hours drive. Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo are always fantastic for a Sunday drive as is the Gold Coast Hinterland and Back Roads around Noosa.

Plenty of track days to choose from with most of the various car clubs happy to have drivers of other marques along to make up numbers and the cost is usually very reasonable. Quite a few Tarmac Rallies held each year with classes for all types of performance cars available. Check out the Dutton Rally at http://www.duttonrally.com and The Indy Rally http://motoringevents.com.au/indy/indy.htm to name two. I recently had a run in the Dutton Rally in my VW R32 and had a blast and have entered the Indy Rally later in the year. On top of that there is the local Hill Climb Club at Mt Cotton and the Noosa Hillclimb held each year.

I'm sure you'll settle in just fine, if I can be of help with anything regarding the area just pop me an email.

Cheers Alastair
