Le Mans 24h - 15/16 June 2019

Anyone going? Ive never been before and toying with the idea, especially as booking opening soon for dedicated campsites etc etc. I know some go as individuals and the club has been as a group before. Might be good to get another group together for this? Any recommendations on routes, travel, accommodation and tips for the race?

Could be up for this. Went in 2016. Camped at Porsche Curves with Travel Destinations. Secure parking, reasonable showers and great location. We did Portsmouth to Caen so the drive would be Atomable.

Only one stop by the Gendarme at the Tolls for a breath test in the morning ( they target every UK plated car coming off the over night ferry it seems).

If I don’t take a pax, I could get my 8 person tent in the Atom, but if I do, then it’s bivouacs

Graeme, to be fair I really want to go back and do this again but not going to be this year for me I'm afraid. 2020 could be an option though!

Steve and Alex thanks. Yes June is a bit crowded for me also, but then it is most years. Will have to decide by early in the new year to get good facilities

For anybody still thinking of going to Le Mans this year, or in the future, can I put a plug in for a camp site I seem to have become a part owner of!

A group of us from our village stayed there last year only to find out that the owners were retiring. After a lot of discussions, mainly over fine ale, four of us have taken on the running of the site...........

The site, which has ample of room for parking is located on the opposite side of the airport with a free shuttle bus running every 10/15 minutes to the main entrance.

We will be catering on site with breakfasts and evening meals served in a club marquee.

In will be driving there in my Atom. It would be great if more could join me!

Just an opinion but if you want to go to Le Mans, I would recommend waiting until next year 2020 when the rules change and the cars will be based on Supercars rather than LMP 1. Most manufacturers have withdrawn from LMP1 now so I think it will be a Toyota v Toyota race at the front.
I’ve been many times and it’s grrat fun in and around the circuit, but next year should be special.
If we start planning now we could make it a massive Le Mans molecule !!!

Thanks Chris, that looks great. Like Kai and others have said I think this should be planned for 2020? June is looking full with 4 events; Goodwood breakfast club, London dawn raid, SE breakfast run, and MSG. I think I will put out a tentative plan for 2020 so we can pencil in some dates?

Yes, somebody said there was some motor racing going on nearby! I was a bit busy eating, drinking and talking bull**it to notice!

If it wasn't for the Corvettes, I dont think we would have heard the cars at night!

No seriously, I'm really looking forward to next year and it would be great to get a good showing from the club. I'm sure a deal could be done . . .

Is there anything specific that you guys would want from a site?

We are within a fenced compound with plenty of toilets and showers and as mentioned before, catering is provided.

With a little planning, I'm sure we could also provide transport bulky items such as tents etc. for an easy ride over.

Chris, if I'm perfectly honest, the availability of half decent food is the biggest bonus on the list. Places like speedchills do decent grub to start with but being able to get fresh fruit, croissants and generally anything other than bacon butties and burgers after day 3 is a massive plus...
