Devon Dash 22/23/24 September

Post by GraemeW » Mon Jul 23, 2018 12:25 pm

Hi all

I am planning a long weekend of good drives in Devon on these dates. 3 of us committed so far; Myself, Sir Nick and Steve Gibson. Details to follow shortly. If you wish to join us for part or all of the trip then let me know.

We will meet at a hotel near Exeter on Saturday 22 September (details below) and base ourselves there for 2 nights. On Sunday 23 Sept we will drive a route through South Hams and Dartmoor, and Monday 24 Sept we will drive a route through north devon and Exmoor. I am working on the routes right now, and will publish them when Ive completed.

On Monday night we plan to stay at a Hotel in North Devon or Somerset (yet to be selected), with a view to a early morning run up the Cheddar gorge on the way home on Tuesday 25 Sept

The hotel we've booked for nights of 22 and 23 september is the Fingle Glen hotel, just North west of Exeter. It has a late cancellation policy so book now if you think you may want to join us.

also via trip advisor etc

If there are many cars we may need to split up, and Nomads may want to run riot on Dartmoor if they can

Ok details worked out.

We are staying at Fingle Glen hotel mentioned above, for the nights of Sat 22 through Monday 24 September inclusive. 3 nights

Anyone still welcome to join us for a single day or entire long weekend? Please let me know and I will add you to WhatsApp group for trip logistics

Detailed programme on Myroute-app under Ariel Club tours in "2018 Devon Dash" folder. If you're not already a user you can register for free, then apply for access to the Ariel Club Tours group.

Still subject to final confirmation the week before, depending on weather forecast

In Summary

Saturday 22 September
Some of us coming from various directions meeting early at Ariel factory for a pit stop then heading off together. Heading down B3165 towards Lyme Regis then along east Devon coastal areas. Skirt around Exeter , and down eastern side of Dartmoor towards Bovey Tracey. Lunch then head north across Dartmoor A382 and around to hotel

Sunday 23 September
Dartmoor and South Hams. Head out across Dartmoor B3212 towards Yelverton then down and around to Ivybridge. Drop down to A379 towards Kingsbridge then along to Torcross. Lunch. The head back up at Slapton. Unfortunately the coastal A379 to Dartmouth is closed due to storm damage. Join A381 to Totnes, Darlington, A384 to Buckfastleigh, and across Dartmoor B3357 to Tavistock. A386 around Dartmoor via Oakhampton back to hotel near Exeter. Some of these roads will probably still have some residual holiday traffic, but when they open up, great for the Atom (or Nomad :) )

Monday 24 September
North Devon and Exmoor. Head up to Crediton then A3072 to Tiverton. A396 to Minehead. Across top of Exmoor A39 to Lynton. Drop south on B3223 to Simonsbath then head west on B3358 to Ilfracombe. Head south B3230 to Barnstaple, then south on A377. At Burrington head north along Mole valley B3226 to South Molton. Then head east B3227 to Oakfordbridge on A396 and back south to hotel. Expected to be the best day for driving

Tuesday 25 September
Everyone heads home. I drop off my car at Ariel to be Supercharged :)

Gents,

I'd definitely be up for this, if a Nomad wouldn't hold you back of course?

I'd be traveling solo though, now the kids are back to school and the wife has her hands full with school runs etc.

Are you guys taking partners? Bit worried about being a 'spare wheel'...

Hi Karl

That will be great. I don't think Nomad will hold us up. Most of us aren't taking partners. my other half may join me for one day, but she hasn't decided yet.

Are you going for some, or all 3 days? PM me with your mobile number and I will add you to the WhatsApp group for this where we are coordinating meeting up with who where and when.

Thanks Graeme. Just didn't want to play gooseberry if everyone else was partnered up ;-)

I'm looking at all 3 days - it's a bit of a trek from Surrey just for a day or two.

I've made contact with the hotel looking at costs, so will hopefully know soon if it's a goer. I'll PM you my details if the green light flickers.

Cheers.

Karl.

Good stuff

The Nomad will also probably be able to show off on parts of Dartmoor where the Atoms can't ;D

OK, I'm in and hotel booked for the 3 nights.

Just hope the Atoms go easy on me on the straights. Remember... I'm the one with the winch if we end up on the Moors ;-)

Looking forward to it.

>:( Thanks gents for accommodating my slow Nomad. I had a ball being among fellow B Road fans this weekend.

Top navigating Digger! Much respect due.

I'll need a week of Sundays now to pick dead flies out of the spotlights.

Memories made!

Not sure how the angry face snuck into the final edit on that post.

I suspect I'm still shaking with adrenaline. DOH!
