Quick question on Atom/Nomad insurance (and NCBs)
Quick question on Atom/Nomad insurance (and NCBs)
Hi folks,
I was renewing my car insurance last night and got to thinking abut 'the day when the Nomad arrives'. At present, my wife and I share 3 cars - a daily driver each and an MX-5 we share. The MX-5 is on her policy for some reason. We both have 9+ years NCB.
When the Nomad comes it will replace the MX-5. I'll probably be the main driver of the Nomad so it might be better to have the insurance in my name. However, I'm not very clear about how NCB's work, especially with 'specialist' insurers like Adrian Flux (we just use Swiftcover at present). Is it the case that my wife has 2x 9 year NCBs and I have only one and, if so, does this mean that if I insure the Nomad in my name I'll get no NCB allowance for it? Hope this makes sense.
Thanks
Andy

Re: Quick question on Atom/Nomad insurance (and NCBs)
I think that as far as NCB goes, it will only be available to the person who is the main policy holder.
The specialist insurance companies do however take all sorts of things into account, including specifically relevant driving experience (ie moving from a Golf Gti to a Nomad won't help much, but if you recently had an Atom-like car it would) and weird stuff such as car club membership.
You will get things like an introductory discount etc, but tbh, if your wife isn't going to be driving the Nomad much, you'll probably just have to accept the initially higher premiums.
That does mean that you could keep the MX5 though, which is most definitely a great idea (in my very unbiased opinion! )
Hope that is of some use.
Cheers,
Stu

If one of you has built up NCB on the mx5 specifically, then you may be better off transferring that. As Wasp says the specialist insurers do lots of things, like mirroring NCB if you don't have separate. It's all really quite odd when you've two cars and two policies.
Re: Quick question on Atom/Nomad insurance (and NCBs)
Thanks chaps. It seems that the specialist insurers are a bit more 'discretionary', so I guess I'll just explain the situation and see what they can do for me.
Cheers,
Andy

Andy,
Give 2gether Insurance a call - http://2getherinsurance.co.uk 01945 465508
My Atom is insured through them on a limited mileage policy and NCD didn't even come into it. Very reasonable too!

Cheers Chris - I've made an internet shortcut to them to remind me. I'm #25 on the Nomad build list so have got an agonising few months yet...
Re: Quick question on Atom/Nomad insurance (and NCBs)
Did you have to phone get2gether for them to get a quote as the Atom isn't a kit car?
Or if you use the intenet site what selection did you choose.
