Atom 3, Retrofit 6 point harness

I would like to retrofit 6 point harnesses but realised, that I do only have 1 eye bolt per side and also the holes in my seat bench are not really positioned for the crutch strap. Their position very close to the back seems to be more for draining purpose but for this they do look quite oversized. They were obviously sawed afterwards.

Steve already told me to snap crutch and lap strap both to one eye bolt, but once done so it seems almost impossible to remove them again.

I would prefer to add further eye bolts.
Could I just drill holes and fix them with a nut or does this essentially require welded nuts like the original?
Is the mounting plate thick enough or would a stress plate be needed (so to be welded anyway?)

Could perhaps somebody post an image of a bench incl. hole for the crutch strap an perhaps even send its position measured from the front of the seating?

Thanks

The hole on my Atom 2 begins about 10cm from the front if you look from above. Mine has some lashes to mount the crotch straps.

search for Schroth B23 KIT

To prevent 'submarining', it's important that the crutch strap goes through the bottom of the seat and not over the front of the seat.

On my Tillett seats, I think the crutch strap mounted to the same side bolts as the lap belts.

I've attached an interesting Schroth document that discusses all the important points about seat belt installation and a top-down shot of the Willans 6 point installation in an Atom 3 with Tilletts.

Thank you guys.

The Schroth B23 KIT seems to be a good solution. Also thank you for the position. Am I right to assume, that this hole was also sawed afterwards?

I also read the Schroth document. Indeed some quite important information I would not had thought about.

Now I am wondering, whether an additional hole may destabilse the bench?

This both giant holes are wrong. Normally the holes are a only 8-10mm drilled hole for water draining.
The rectangular opening for the crotch strap is further towards the back of the knee and fits perfect.

Yes, Steve is right.
The lap strap is fixed with a eye bolt and the crotch strap with a bolt fixing. This is a great way to attach the crotch strap. I've been riding with it for 6 years now.
If your Willans harnesses are registered in the vehicle registration, then I wouldn't install Schroth. You're just waking up sleeping dogs.
Why don't you order Willans? You can order them here in Germany.

I have not yet decided, which harness to take.
I already bought used Ariel ones, but shipping procedure was too complicated from UK to EU so I unfortunately could not get them.
Basically I would prefer them as the original ones.

Indeed I have the Willans mentioned in my registration and I agree, this would be the easiest way to go, legally.
However after spending some time with research I do not like the adjusters of the Willans for the lap belts.
I only found the Silverstone LDT6 which has other -probalby better- adjusters.

I guess, that the Ariel Willans are customised for the Atom, so the single belts are not that long so the wind would not blow them around.

I had a Schroth Enduro 3x2 for testing and these adjusters and their location seem to be very good. Also you can shorten (cut off) the shoulder and lap belts length if desired.

I also found this design at one Sabelt and one very reasonably priced (160€) Beltenick harness.

I would also prefer a 4 point harness to be extended to a 6 point.
All the 6 point FIA harnesses have the crutch strap fixed to the lock, so you cannot use them as a 4 point.
At the Schroth locks you can easily change the fixed belt though, not sure about other manufacturers.

You can buy the Willans here in Germany. And I bought a completly new 6-point set. The harness are built as I want and ordered.

From the factory you will only get the 4-point ones, if I remember correct.
If you are talking about the adjuster of the lap belt at the pic above - yes correct this adjuster is bull sh1t in handling. This adjuster you can use for the crotch strap but not for the lap belt. I have bought completely other adjuster and at the shoulder others too.

I had ordered not a set like Silverstone LDT6. I have chosen and assembled every single part, no matter if belt, lock or adjuster.
Sorry I had no pics on my home server to show you my Willians config.

Is there a kind of configurator?
I cannot even find an overview of the available parts, belts, adjusters.
May I ask about their price?
Would be very interested in photographs if not too much of inconvenience.

Just give Willans a call and tell them that you want a 6 point harness for an Atom 3 series with either 2" or 3" straps and what colour webbing you would like.

They know exactly what sizes are required and you only need to be happy with the price.

Usually takes about a 7 - 10 days or so for your order to be delivered as they make them up to order.

I have 2 x 3" sets (blue & red) which I swap - depending on the colour of the panels currently fitted to my 3.5R!

Thanks, I will do so.

Any suggestion or advice regarding sawing new holes? :)

May I also ask others for measures of the hole position?
I now took my seatbench out and 10cm from the front seem to be a bit less to me. (?)
Thanks

Und du kennst mich nicht mal persönlich.
