When I had my Atom in the UK in 2018 I had to trailer it because as it is registered in Cyprus I was unable to find an UK insurance company prepared to cover it.
Can you get cover to drive it as a tourist in the UK from an insurance company in your country of registration?

To get UK cover it would have had to be reregistered in the UK and would also have needed a MOT and I would have had to pay road tax as well!

It was easier and cheaper to trailer it everywhere.

Thank you for your advice! My atom is also a Uk registered car, it’s just me not being a Uk resident

If your Atom is still fully registered in the UK (i.e. got a UK number plate, V5, road tax & MOT) then - provided you can register it to an address somewhere in the UK (parent, brother, sister or friend - preferably choose to use a postcode located in a low insurance area of the country) then you should have no problems insuring your Atom (except possibly cost if you don't have a no claims bonus?)

I really don't think it matters whether, or not, you are an UK resident or not because my brother administers a climate controlled lower level of a secure underground garage attached to his block of flats next to the Hurlingham Club in Fulham London with all sorts of exotic machinery some of which are owned by Europeans, Gulf citizens and Americans none of whom, as far as I'm aware, are resident in the UK.

All the cars are UK registered and their owners fly in from all over the world for shows and rallies.

I have looked through my old REIS policy documents from when my Atom was in the UK (I was actually resident in Cyprus at the time I had this insurance - but kept my Atom at my UK house) and there is no requirement in the documents that I can find requiring the owner be resident in the UK - I have attached the insurance policy documents for you to peruse!!

I just insured it at my UK address - they never asked if I was a UK resident so I didn't tell them.

I also have a Cyprus (EU) driving licence!

I have been resident in Cyprus since 2004 and have maintained UK insurance on a series of cars ever since then - currently I have an UK registered CRV which is comprehensively insured by A-plan (Thatcham) with AGEAS which I drive whenever I'm in the UK!

I know of many others resident in Cyprus who also do the same with no problems!

I am really struggling to get a good price on insurance and the experience so far is far from good, these guys certainly want their pound of flesh! There is certainly an opportunity to make this better/easier for customers.

So far I have called:

A Plan
REIS
Classic Line
Adrian Flux (still waiting on price back from these guys, they said 20 mins it's been 5 hrs)

Now need to figure out which kidney to sell to pay for this... strange as I am not that young and live in a good low crime area and had fast cars in the past, clean licence.

Most are asking ~£800 and this doesn't include track days, they are taking the p*ss!

I hope I’m staying the obvious Simon, but have you tried limiting the mileage?

I used to do it for 5000 per year and it greatly reduced my premiums.

Also if you have a motorbike, tell them, that also helped.

All that aside, I never managed to get it much below £800 you mention. And that’ll be with a cheaper slower car ;)

Who does track cover on these? Most Lotus insurers include 5/6 ABTO days a year and was expecting the same for the Atom?
GR Yaris CP for when it rains, Atom 4 for when it doesn’t.

Thanks Phil, I will only be doing 3000 miles. I am now considering SORNing the car over the winter and reduce insurance to fire and theft because I will not drive it Oct -> March due to salty roads and see if this makes any considerable difference in price.

If you do SORN it, consider how you go about building up no-claims. If indeed you do. I know some of the firms will mirror other NC, but they may also start a proper counter on this. I certainly saw year on year decreases.
