Shift light in steering wheel repair?

Post by cutch » Mon Sep 24, 2018 12:47 pm

The shift light on my steering wheel has stopped showing the orange. Is there anyone that can repair it or supply the part?

Going to have it recovered at same time anyway...

Have you checked the wires to the wheel? I had a connector pin go on mine (removable wheel).

Pretty simple DIY fix. Just a bit of soldering and the correct pin extractor.

Cost a few quid. Good luck.
Atom 4, Clio v6, & some other cars obviously.

It's only the orange section of the LEDS mate. The green and red work as they should when the revs increase. I think i saw someone say the ones from SPA were actually slightly bigger than the factory ariel wheel though? I'm still offshore so haven't checked up yet.

It's a 4-pin plug to the dash which I suspect is an earth plus one pin for each colour. As Peter suggests, could just be the orange pin connection has come loose

Well I tried Smokin but it didn't seem to be the pin but thanks for the help.

I phoned up Spa and asked them If the size of wheel was different as i had seen in a previous post. They confirmed the size and voila new wheel arrived two days later. Easy change over, just made up a template of the old holes to make sure i put the new ones in the correct place and took it for a spin in the rain to check it worked.

Works a treat and I have nice new alcantara??

Drilling the hub holes is always a nervous time for me - glad it's all gone well

Yeah i didnt want to mess it up.

I actually used parcel tape in layers and drew the holes on it, cut through edges with a Stanley then transferred the shape across.

A bit nerve racking.
