Garage door security
Garage door security
Having had a couple of padlocks bolt cropped off my garage door in the past by some ne’er do Wells I am thinking about an upgrade in security for the Atom’s garage.
Am thinking about a Garage Defender. https://www.screwfix.com/p/squire-garag ... sgodAGULXQ
Anyone used one of these? Are they fairly straight forward to fit?
Thanks,
Swm

Re: Garage door security
Our current house has both doors of the double garage protected by these. Cannot advise on fitting as they were in when we purchased but are not an inconvenience and easy to use. If you have a side door then consider adding heavy duty gate bolts top and bottom to the inside of the door protected by padlocks.
Re: Garage door security
Thanks for this. Will investigate fitting over the weekend. May need some power tools, maybe even bigger power tools :-)!
Re: Garage door security
I've put steel rods through the corners of the doors in to the concrete, internally.

Re: Garage door security
No experience with the above, I used this one which is a similar idea. Its bolted to the garage door then locked by the bolt into the ground.

Thing is, has an Atom ever been nicked? None that I can remember.

Re: Garage door security
I have a SEIP garage door opener (http://www.seip.co.uk/) fitted to my UK garage.
- the exterior door handle/lock ha been completely disconnected/removed and as a result the electric motor & chain effectively locks the garage door in place it can ONLY be opened by using either by using a keypad or one of our multi-channel (rolling code) remotes.
In the event of a electrical mains power cut it requires entry to be made through the metal reinforced door at the rear of the garage and the electric garage door opener then has to be mechanically disconnected from the door drive chain so the door can be opened manually.
There is nothing on the outside of my garage door to either get a grip on or to pull - which makes it almost impossible to break into without using a metal disc cutter - the use of which which would effect entry into any garage no matter what theft precautions are in place!

Re: Garage door security
Autobackup, just as an addition to this, your door can sometimes be opened by a tool being inserted up into the rope mechanism from the bushing at the top of your garage roller door to disconnect the mechanism just as you do from in your garage. It's not a well known method of entry but don't think it's invincible...

Re: Garage door security
Alex
It would be very difficult for anybody to do this - mostly because it it not a roller door but a central chain driven overhead system with stainless steel fixings to a, 'up and over' steel Garador!
It is one of these : http://www.seip.co.uk/TS75&TS100InstallationManual.pdf
- there is no possibility whartsoever of getting at the Garador connection to the carrier chain when the door is closed as it is connected to the door with s/steel bolts to a point positioned about 30cm below the top of the centre of the Garador unless, as I said in my previous post, a metal disc cutter is used to cut a hole in the door but, then again, no door could stand up such a tool!

Re: Garage door security
Next time your back in England Autobackup give me a shout and I'll show you how easy it is to bypass that garage door. £100 side bet if I can't get it open in 2 minutes

Now there's a man I wouldn't bet against! What that man doesn't know about getting into doors isn't worth knowing...
