everyone likes Eddie, by posting that it was his request everyone will cheer hurrah and everyone will play nice and be happy to follow the rules.

I agree Posi, it shouldn't matter who asked. If it was Randy, CalScot, Darth, MadMax or anybody else that asked it should be equally valid. Especially when the running joke is that no thread can stay on topic for more than a page or two. The object wasn't intended to hurt anyone, to trample on free speech, or anything else... Just to give any of our members a clear voice in a crowded room without them having to leave and buy a bullhorn of their own.. 

And with that I'm heading out back up to the hospital... Please play nice.

In which case is it possible to set up the forum so that these threads don't show up on your unread posts alert unless you're registered?

I'm going to get tired fast of seeing 'new' linking to threads I have no interest in and can't post in...

Another observation...

The first two of these type of threads seem to be quite picture-rich. Is this the best use of our bandwidth and server space?

A: the pictures take up what....3 mb...jesus christ if you aren't stingy with your bandwidth

and B: hell yes we need pictures...........THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS....build threads need detailed pics so others can really see what's being done.

1) Right-click on each picture and select "Properties".
2) Note that the photos are not hosted on the forum.
3) Retract comment.

It would have to be done with groups, but (and I haven't researched this about SMF) the current way groups function is not public. Its a manual, intensive setup. PhpBB and other types of forum software deal with groups differently with public and private groups that are easy to join and such. Maybe this is something that can be done at the admin level but I don't have access tot hat screen. When I get time and am not dead on my feet I'll look at the online docs/manuals for SMF.

I'm not technical, so I have no idea about what effect pictures have on the site bandwidth etc.. As I said, merely an observation... If it doesn't cause problems, then that's fine.
