Catalytic converter needed for Atom 1

Post by alpinestars » Wed Sep 14, 2011 8:56 am

Hi all, it's MOT time again and I need a cat for my K series Atom 1.  Other than hiring one from the factory, does anyone know where I can buy one please?

Thanks

Maybe somewhere like this...  http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/

Mine looks like a standard car part. It has the name Cheswick on it. I'll post the part number tomorrow.

Looks like the Atom1 cat is a Cheswick WAG103650. The unit is also the same one that was fitted with the K1.8i engine in the Rover MGF.

This seems to be the current replacement..

I found this report quite interesting... http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/exhaust/catalysts.htm

Apparently there is no real advantage in fitting the cat bypass tube instead of the standard catalyst with the K1.8.

Hi Gents

The cat tube itself from an Atom 1 is a standard part but the flanges, shape and fitment were bespoke - so unfortunately a standard off the shelf part won't fit the car although the actual cat 'cannister' is the same.  You could get one made to fit for sure by buying one of those and having it modified if you wanted.....

The Atom 1 cat assembly has long gone out of production although as you say Ariel do have one which is available on a loan basis.

Is that 'loan' or 'rental', Tom?

Alpinestars,

Where are you based, anywhere near West London, maybe able to save you some aggravation and expense.
