Another would be Atom competitor?

Post by dp35 » Mon May 01, 2006 10:00 pm

I saw this on the same forum as the Jay Leno Atom photos.  Apparently it was at the same place.  Interesting that its got Calif. license plates.  I'm guessing that's because its a Plymouth Prowler or some other car with this "F1" body on it.

I can't believe that people put this much work into something without a clue about automotive styling.  Maybe its just me, but this looks like a lot of work for something that just looks fake and stupid.  Take the wheels and tires for example, why those?  Do they think they look like F1 wheels/tires, or do they just think the rest of the world is too stupid to know the difference?

To answer my own question, this is NOT competition for the Atom, IMO.

Their web site has no info, just photos.  I can't wait to see what engine it has, and how much it will cost if/when its sold.

It obviously is a test mule for them.  Fact that something that is that 'similar' visually to the real thing is street legal is astounding. Wheels are a minor thing.

I agree, it's not in the same class as the 2 seater Atom. If the performance is there I could see some for the Radical and other aero cars.

I've heard of this car company & this car before.  It's purpose is to LOOK like an F1 car and be street legal, not to be a performance car which uses F1 technology.  One look at the suspension setup gives away that this is not a serious car.  BTW, the CF "scoop" assembly immediately behind the driver's cockpit is a cover for the passenger compartment (it's a tandem seater).  A neat novelty vehicle, but there's no way this car is an Atom competitor.

As for the powerplant, it's fairly flexible...I think it uses various GM powerplants.

I wonder is any of the Aftermarketers are working on a lift kit to go with those wheels...

Even if it was a competitor, it doesn't capture that 'essence' that the Atom has. It can hardly be described in words...the atom is just amazing!

biggest difference is that the atom was designed with a vision, to be something unique - not a weak caricature of something it can never be like the 'f1' thing.  sorry if that sounds harsh but i don't care for things that pretend to be something and fall infinitely short of what they emulate.  if you go to all the trouble of creating a design, why not make it your own?  to me the 'f1' is not much better than a fiero with a cheesy testarossa body kit.  it's not a 'competitor', it's a good reminder of why the atom is worth owning.

just an opinion.

Strathcarron's back - and this time it's Honda powered!

Image

It's called the Javan R1 and it's made in Cornwall.

See:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoe ... elise.html

Having driven a Strathcarron, I advise anyone over 4'10" not to bother... And this time it's being made by a guy that specialises in making model cars! You have to feel sorry for that design, it's been abused over the last 6 years. Someone ought just to let it lie...

Nice engine in it, though ;)

And another one? (I can't post the pics as they're currently embargoed... it looks interesting, though)

Dear Bruce,

I am writing to inform you of our latest design and release of the two seater Vanwall Sports
Racer.

Vanwall launches its 2-seater Sports Racer at Goodwood Revival

This first ever two seater Vanwall Sports Racer powered by a Ferrari V12 engine will be on
view to the general public at this yearâ??s Goodwood Revival on on Friday 1st to the Sunday 3rd
September 2006, stand 117.

A champagne reception launch and prize draw takes place at 4pm on the Saturday.

In profile, it looks similar to the Grand Prix Racer V12, in the single-seater
configuration, but is stretched laterally to provide the extra accommodation
for a co-driver.

By removing a panel to the side of the driver it reveals a full
second seat and there is ample room in the cockpit as you sit side by side.
The alloy panel is stored in the boot and a co-driverâ??s windscreen is easily
fitted.

Additionally the car has easy access by concealed opening doors for both
driver and co-driver.  This car then becomes a very usable full two-seater
high performance sports racing car for both road and track use.

This particular car has the Ferrari V12 4.4 litre engine fitted with Weber carburrettors

The Vanwall stand is number 117 and is a Pavillion Marquee with both the Vanwall Grand
Prix Racer and the above Vanwall Sports Racer. On diplay also will be videos and the
XBOX where you can drive the virtual Vanwall GPR on the Microsoft Game Studios latest
release featuring the Vanwall GPR V12.

Please Note, tickets for the Goodwood Revival must be purchased in advance as none
are for sale on the day. The ticket hotline is 01243 755 055

Thank you

And another one - This one has me all excited - a car from one of my favourite bike companies...

Shame the performance doesn't match... from Autoblog:

Way back in April, amidst all the cooing of the new TT, AutoExpress reported that motorcycle manufacture KTM was collaborating with Audi to make a lightweight roadster, squarely aimed at the Elise crowd. The stats were enough to make your pants tight: liberal use of carbon fiber to bring weight down around 2,600 lbs., a naught to 60 time of under six-seconds, all while returning 50 MPG. We were excited. Then we caught wind that the VW GX3 was never going to come to market, due to pesky lawyers and liability issues, and we assumed the same fate would be beset on Ingolstat's offering.

Not the case.

Our friends over at the German Car Blog came upon an interview with KTM exec Stefan Pierir in the Deutschland Austrian rag, Der Standard. He let the details slip that Dallara, a notable racing company, is in on the design and that the project is a go for spring of '07, with 1,000 cars to be produced annually.

All we need now is a dollar figure so we can start selling off underutilized organs.
