Continuation (replica) Scarab

Post by dingo » Fri Feb 12, 2010 3:34 pm

I visited this car in (you guessed it), Arizona last week.
350ci Chevy @ 500hp. VERY LOUD !  No muffler.

This runs on non DOT approved Dunlop Racing (crossply) tyres.
Men in those cars at track speed were braver than me.
Witha nod to modernity it has disc brakes, but no ABS etc.  Body is Aluminum.
I want one.

There is Roll Over Protection as an option.  The one I saw is more trophy.

Let's face facts also...in a head-on collision, whether it's a deer or a John Deere, we're toast in an Atom.

Yes, both were driving. Who's that at the side and who's on first??

Very cool!!!  Bob Bondurant is a legend.  :tu: :tu:

In regards to the Atom vs. Deere..I disagree, wholeheartedly!! I believe the Atom provides a great deal of crash protection for a driver strapped in properly, with some sort of hans protection

I imagine going under John Deere, more than into.
If my nose dives under the chassis of an SUV, at pretty much any speed, I don't think my bubbles will slow my progress much and I'll be decapped.

I agree as this is the damage from when I went under the chevron road sign last July with Nadine as a passenger.

Any higher off the ground and we might not have been here.  ::)

Ducking isn't an option if you're buckled in properly and I doubt if you'd have enough time to any way.  :-\

I was amused at myself ducking some years ago when a rock diemolished my driver's side RVM.
As I ducked, I was thinking:
"That's pretty silly actually, the event is over and the glass has already passed my head".
Then my passenger asked:  What happened?
to which I replied:              Fecked if I know.

Then and only then did I notice the dangling stalk that moments before had been my window to my past.

In the case of John Deere, at 40 mph, I might have enough time to think "Oh, f.........."
