"Nissan's getting a $1.4 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy to  modify Nissan's Smyrna, Tenn.,  plant to produce the Leaf and its batteries. Groundbreaking for the battery plant is to take place in May. And a $98 million grant from the Department of Energy pays for 6,510 public recharging stations in Seattle, Phoenix, Tucson and San Diego, plus sites  in Tennessee and Oregon."
