The sidepods were only fitted to my knowledge to the Atom V8, or the 3.5R.... so there's not going to be any specific for an Atom 3... and I'd be surprised if anyone took them off their 3.5R. You never know, but hope the above helps you manage your expectation.

I'm sure the factory can quote you for the sidepods and fitting kit.
-They may even be able to help with the plumbing you'll need to relocate any coolers you have in mind.

They come in primer, so would need painting or wrapping to match etc ..

I would endorse both Phil and John's comments above - there is virtually no chance in finding 'used' 3.5.R sidepods as they are an integral and essential part of the 350bhp 3.5R as they house the charge cooler (left pod) and oil cooler (right pod) - I believe, however, that there is at least one full blown 3.5R around without any sidepods as the owner didn't like the look of them and so they found alternative mounting spots for the two coolers!

Atom 3.5R s are generally quite rare - both those built as an original 3.5R ex-factory or Atom 3s or 3.5s that have been upgraded to either the full or partial 3.5R spec - so the chances of you stumbling across a crashed/written off one (with intact sidepods) is extremely unlikely.

While manual gearbox 3.5Rs are quite rare, 3.5Rs with the Sadev Sequential box are as rare as hen's teeth!

I would suggest that you consider calling or emailing Matt (parts@arielmotor.co.uk) at the Ariel factory to check on the availability and price because you will at least know that they will fit!!

Henry posted on another earlier thread :-

"I will also say

If you are interested, we do do a 'stealth' charge cool kit (so no side pods) fits up front where the 'hot country radiator' goes.

good for about 30-35bhp on a blown K24."

But we all know the factory blower figures on the K24 are way out, so I would take the horsepower figures with the largest pinch of sea salt. Work on 25-40% less cooling vs the pods (depending upon ambient), then add that to the 'whatever the K24 makes' number and +/- 10% would be the best guess.

There is some confusion. A 3.5R is only really going to be a 3.5 chassis, with Ohlins and Sadev. It was a mistake (by all) to say a manual was an R. They should have made it an 'S' as Caterham did with the 620R/S.

I’m assuming that Henry’s stealth charge cool kit includes a remap and other tweaks.
I can’t see just installing an oil cooler and air intercooler releasing 30-35 bhp otherwise.

Most of the 3.5Rs currently around are manual - Ohlins (£4500) and the Sadev (+/- £25000) were offered as upgrade options however while most purchasers seem to have opted for Ohlins but, due to the cost, relatively few had the Sadev box fitted which is why thr Rs sporting the Sadev are so rare. There were also a few other differences as well e.g. rear wheel size.

Incidentally my 3.5R makes just over 360bhp on my local rolling road!

The Sadev defines the car for me.

Anyone had this done on the K20 A3? - I'd be interested in seeing what's required for the stealth oil/charge cooler setup to keep the temps down. I'd also secretly like a full blown side pod kit too.....but imagine it's $$$$$$

Cheers!

Back in 2016, I emailed Tom asking if they could fit the 'empty' sidepods (no coolers etc) to my Atom 3.

His reply :-

"Yes we can fit them ‘empty’, price for the kit is £1500 + VAT and £660 + VAT for fitting."

(That would be unpainted)

If it goes in place of the second radiator (horizontal one) I'll be surprised it would be that effective with all the heat coming from the main water radiator just centimeters away. Maybe trying to diverting the airflow should work.

I also thought the charge cooled 3.5R had a slightly smaller pulley no ?

As far as I understand, that is the exact set-up on the Nomad R. Normal rad up front, and a charge rad horizontally behind.

It's actually not too dissimilar from the oil rad at the rear if you think about it. That's right next to the engine block and not exactly hitting cool air head on.
