It was this one:

But shortly followed by this one

I didn't pay for either of them.

I think the first car I actually bought with my own money was one of these:

But I can't remember what it cost or how much it was to insure...

With the 2.8 M110 engine

Cost £995 and about £600 to insure (I think)

First cars I regularly had use of were a 1.3 Metro in hearing aid beige then a Corsa 1.4 Si a Sierra estate and a Mondeo estate.

Morris Marina 1.3L with vinyl roof and plastic rear bench seats (attached to nothing!) in a lovely shade of burgundy.

Wrote that off 3 weeks after passing my test so moved up ... to a Datsun Cherry 1.0. Blue.

Happy days

69 Chevelle (I was 16), cost me $200, wouldn't run, a sawzall and unbolting the crushed/crimped dual exhaust I found underneath and it ran smooth as could be. Then a 73 Nova (17), 67 Camaro (18), 69 Camaro (19), Porsche 914 (21), etc...

I'm a lot younger than most on here I guess... I drove my parents cars in the UK whilst at college/Uni then moved to the States and with the little savings I had I bought one of these:

1986 Toyota Corolla SR5

I ran this car (well a very similar one as unfortunately I don't have a photo of mine) from 80,000 to 120,000 miles without any mechanical issues at all. Great little car.

The first car i ever drove was an Ople Manta 1.8 SR. My dad taught me how to get the back end out in that on waste ground near us, the old David Brown's Tractor car park. 'drive on to that gravel, turn and floor it'

The first car i owned was a Mk2 Escort i had when i was 15 and drove on the same waste ground. Again, Sideways fun.

The first car after passing my test was a Mk3 Escort 1.1 Popular in midnight blue. That lasted until the next m.o.t was due then scrapped. Next was a Mk2 Fiesta 1.1 Popular in beige with XR2 pepperpot alloys. The front end was rotten but the rear was mint as my friend, the previous owner was rear ended and rather than write it off they somehow thought it better to repair it.

Renault 5 1.1 1987 on the F - nice vehicle.  Only had about 50,000 on the clock, one old lady had owned it from new.  Cost £350 and another £300 to insure it.

Only lasted about 9 months though with my 'enthusiastic' driving style at the time  ;D  I hit a deer and destroyed the front end, bodged it back together then stuck it in a ditch.  Then I cooked the head gasket and that was that.

First car was a yellow Mini 850 which I shared with my mum. It had a dodgy bonnet latch, which would randomly let go and the bonnet would fly open an up, covering the windscreen.  :o

First car of my own was a red Mini city 1000 which, being a teenager, I felt obliged to Barry up with white alloys, wide arches, a LOUD centre exhaust and just one bucket seat (which i fitted myself). Driving to work one day, two of the bolts in the bucket seat sheared off and the seat collapsed backwards with me lying prone and staring at the ceiling!
And that is why subsequently I only trust professionals to tinker with my cars.

Rob.

Nurse blue, 4 door, Morris Minor 1000. VHY 384H.

Complete babe magnet, fact. Especially since I always insisted starting it on the handle.

Cheers,
