Access with Sky broadband

Post by FlyingTrotter » Thu Jul 19, 2012 5:59 pm

Over recent days I have stopped being able to access the site on the IPad (not others just this one) using my home wifi which is Sky broadband

I can get access at home on the Ipad with vodaphone 3G

Any thoughts on why ? How I can sort this out you techie folk ?

I am also finding that the login drops quite frequently so that i have to reenter my user name and password every few times i use the site and that has been an issue since the new site came into use

The login username and password are saved in your internet browser cookies.

If you are having to re-enter these, it sounds like you are configured to not allow cookies, or save cookies or is your user profile getting zapped somehow?

Are you clearing down your browser history which might include the cookies?

I'm not aware of any specific dependencies to access this site like Java or Flash etc.
If it's just this site you're having issues with, perhaps you need to try clearing out the temporary internet files etc as there may be some corruption.

That doesn't really explain why it's ok on the 3G side though ...

What symptoms do you get when it doesn't work Ian?

If you go to a command prompt, can you ping the site by name? It should resolve to an IP address and reply.
If it does, it proves that DNS is working ok.

If it doesn't, try entering
http://109.203.120.15/forum

Does that work?

If it does, it suggests that the Sky DNS Servers are challenged.
You should be able to replace the Sky DNS Servers with OpenDNS or Google DNS server addresses, but if you have a Sky router, I think they're locked down. If so, you can add these alternative DNS Server addreses directly on the device.

I assume you've tried a cold start on the router/modem!
