Parking brake-Wilwood track brakes...

Post by maverick1 » Tue May 19, 2009 3:24 am

Unfortunately, I have driven with the parking brake on a couple of times and now it does not work very well.
I pulled the pads and they are glazed.
Is there any way to rejuvenate these pads?
I was hoping that sanding or grinding them might work.
Any ideas?
Is there any way to get the parking brake light to work on the dash?
cheers

Step 1 - Deposit in waste bin..

Step 2 - Roll waste bin to curb for collection..

Step 3 - Greet UPS driver at said curb..

Step 4 - Open new box of fresh pads..

Step 5 - Install new pads..

Step 6 - Open cold beer and admire job well done..  :tu:

Mav, have you already just tightened your P-brake down, there's a procedure for it, and it will take all the slack out of the line and allow your brake to work again.....I have done that 2 times so far, once b/c it didn't catch well enough from the factory, and the other was cuz I drove with the brake on...but it's worked for ever since I tightened it up.

who cares if there are glazed.  you are not using them to stop the car right?  A similarly shaped rock could keep a car parked

Yes because UK cars have this.  Assume it is the check engine light on US cars instead ?

take a pad in your hand and grind it on a big grain sanding paper (don't do the opposite, because it'll not be flat), and put them back.

They're 150-8937K pads, $39.99 on eBay right now.

If you're mechanically inclined, sure. You'll need to have some sort of switch that can tell if the brake handle is retracted. There's a wire tied back near the handbrake assembly that ends with a brown push-on female connector. Grounding that wire will make the brake icon on the dash light up.

Note: the above is for US Brammo Atoms - I don't know about UK or TMI Atoms.

The UK setup has a switch which is normally closed but shorts the wire to gnd when the handbrake is on.  The switch is in just the right place to get knocked by your leg if you are tall and fill with water (so grounding) in heavy rain!

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.
Yes silver I have adjusted my parking brake, but the pads are so glazed that on any kind of hill they wont hold the car stationary.
I think I will get new pads and then try and wire it up so the parking brake light works on the dash.
I paid for it, I mine as well use the darn thing.
Regarding the cotter pins. Can you get them at any auto parts store or are they special?
cheers

One out of 3 Lowes in my area carries them. Each store has a very different hardware selection (I suspect they're serviced by different jobbers).
