Suspension time...

Post by nickpoore » Thu Feb 12, 2009 4:20 am

I just received my new shocks and rod-ends from TMI.

I ordered replacement Aurora Race Rod-Ends through TMI.
(I might have been able to purchase them slightly cheaper elsewhere, but it's good to put the business through a company you want to support.)

I also ordered upgraded Koni Shocks through TMI, as they have some of the original Brammo stock remaining.
(I've always been disapointed with my original Koni selection, with nobody to blame except myself for not doing my homework.)

So, sometime in the next week I'll be taking my car apart and replacing all of the rod-ends.
While it's apart, I'll be replacing the shocks.

I guess I'll have to get an alignment afterwards.

Now if only Tom would ship my new uprights in the next week, I could do everything at once. :D

EDIT: I fixed my typo.

Only a true petrolhead could describe rod ends as "tasty".

Good arrows  :tu:

Okay, so I fixed the typo.

I had Koni 3012 shocks.
I have upgraded to Koni 2812 shocks.

Yes, my fully working 3012 shocks will be available to anyone who wants to upgrade to those.

Without image compression, and with a decent camera setup, tripod etc... that would be a wicked-cool photo.
Arty and all.

That would explain it...
Its a shame Apple didnt upgrade the camera for the 3G version... the 2Mpix no flash, poor focus one is quite archaic.

The new rod ends are the high-performance ones.

no I mean the shocks, what's the name of the 2812 packages and the 3012 package, is that brammo's track and race package or standard to track package?

The 2812 was the high end stuff
3012 was the mid
I'm not sure if there was a "standard" or "bottom".

The 2812's are the High end shocks.
(I'm not sure what Brammo called them.)

The 3012's are the mid-range shocks.
The 30SP8 are the entry-level shocks.

They are discussed on page 50 of the latest manual.

Basically...
The 30SP8's are rebound-adjustable.
To adjust the rebound, you must fully extend the shock and rotate it, so it must be unbolted from the bellcrank.

The 3012's are rebound & compression adjustable.
To adjust the rebound, you just turn the adjuster that's near the end of the shock.
To adjust the compression, you must fully extend the shock and rotate it, so it must be unbolted from the bellcrank.

The 2812's are rebound & compression adjustable.
To adjust the rebound, you just turn the adjuster that's near the end of the shock.
To adjust the compression, you just turn the other adjuster that's near the end of the shock.

So, the 3012's and the 2812's are really similar, however the 2812's are adjustable in-place without having to unbolt from the bell-crank.

I wish I'd know that before I ordered my car.

Yes, 3012's were part of what Brammo recommended for their 'track' package whereas the 2812's were recommended for their 'race' package.  But it seemed to me that they didn't refer to them as "track shocks" or "race shocks" in the same way they did with "track brakes" and "race brakes".
