Another Turbo build up

Maybe I am dense or am missing something...but where is the intercooler? From what I have read and seen, it seems that the pipe goes directly from the turbo compressor outlet to the throttle body.

I am trying to get from ideas for my own turbo build and the intercooler placement is the most problematic part.

Got the intercooler tubes back.. they are BEAUTIFUL, especially if you like black  8)

More of a satin crinkle finish, that matches the panels perfectly.  The tube inside the intake just disappears, except for my "white" (clear) water injection hose... might have to get some black hose there, just because.

Now if the weather would just behave for more than 2 or 3 hours at a time, I could get some driving in!

Using the stock ecotec air/water intercooler built into the intake manifold.

Intercooler in the hoop!!!  This works great on mine.  Tom at Unique fabricating can make you one.  I have his price list for his turbo conversion (minus Hahn's turbo kit) that includes exhaust, cold air intake, charge piping, intercooler.  PM me if you want the price list

The air to air looks to be about 30 degrees F cooler than my setup, from looking at both logs.

First Post track day tear down results:

The exhaust tubing now has a nice gold glow to it, but the muffler looks brand new still.  The cat housing is dark DARK purple, but the cat itself visually looks brand new.  The cat survived, as did the muffler, intact!  :tu:

Intake tubes all held up, and no boost tubes came loose.  Water injection performed well, and the car still had GOBS of power even in 90 degree heat (no difference in power from one hour to the next as the ambient temperature came up).

I was a little concerned about frame damage with the turbo being an inch away, and the muffler even closer, but the concerns were unwarranted.  The car looks exactly the same, just a little less rubber on the rear tires from drifting a few corners.

I replaced the studs joining the turbo and exhaust manifold, and added new washers and nuts.  New locking lugnuts are in route from mcmaster carr, to sold the nut backing off issue.  The coating on the exhaust manifold (2000 degree paint) held up perfectly.

No oil was burned, car  hickuped on power once (I think I may have hit the rev limiter though, not sure).

I still have extra gold insulator sitting around that I forgot to get to you

who was your passenger? Mac?  did you change your tune after the crap pump gas?

Yes, Mac was my passenger.  I don't think I scared him too badly  :o

I ended up using the crap gas tune with the boost turned up for the event - so about 290whp or so (260 at 17psi, I was running 20).  Power on that track was not something that was lacking, LOL.

Another minor change - constant improvement.

With the way the coolant lines are hooked up to the turbo, my dash coolant temp readings have never been right.  The lines dump coolant back into the system right where the dash sensor is.

So today I relocated the sensor.  Positron found another location, and with a m22x1.5 to m14x1.5 adapter (dodge cummons oil drain plug drilled all the way through and tapped), the readings now match the ecu, as well as being more consistent.

Darth, forgive me for not finding it, but what does your inter-cooler solution look like?  How are your IAT's?    I saw your recent dyno with 291 foot pounds of torque and what, 301whp?

stock intake manifold with laminova tubes.  Using a small radiator mounted to front of engine radiato to run the fluid through though, instead of the black oil cooler sucking heat off of the pavement facing down.

On my dyno runs, Max IAT2 was 135 degrees, that was after doing pull after pull after pull.  Generally right around 120-125

Darth,

Is your stock intake manifold configured as "quad pass" or "dual pass"?
