Hey Gage, are you still building that Atom look a like?
cheers

I haven't made up my mind yet what I'm going to build.  I'm sitting on cash reserved for the purpose and holding back my trigger finger.  There are some very interesting alternatives out there.

I find after driving an Atom.....the list of cars with similar performance numbers under $80,000 is not that great.
I have never been in any other car that has the explosive acceleration an Atom has. Closest thing was a C@terham which only had 130hp but it still felt pretty quick, however nothing like my Atom.
cheers

unfortunately the Atom isn't much under 80 grand anymore though.

Where are the pics Darth?  I want to hear about how easy it was to get that fuel pump out :)

I was gonna save the pics until after I got it back in.  But.. I don't have it back in yet, because I figured it was safer to walk away than to start throwing parts.

2 hours to remove.. better believe it.  You weren't joking.  And putting it back in isn't going to be much of a picnic I would imagine.  I spent the afternoon getting making all the parts fit with the new pump.  New wiring harness plug (along with extending the wires a bit), new "bendy" hose (the one you gave me is longer, and I definitely need a longer one because I don't want to be cramped putting it back together, and using a dremel on the body of the fuel pump holder so it all fits together.  I have two more days to my weekend, it was cold out in the garage because I had the door open.. so I quit for the day a bit early.

Any recommendations on putting it back in the tank?  Any secrets other than just go for it?  The one thing that would have made it easier, would be to drill out the rivets on the firewall (behind the seat) and remove that plate.  I was SO tempted to do that a couple of times.

Its in the car now.  Took two tries.  Had it all sealed up, ready to go, even re-did all the zip ties, put the ECU back in, etc.  Replugged in the battery, flipped the switch, used the immobilizer, and the pump came to life.

And then I noticed the fuel level indicator said zero. Nada.  And I have a nearly full tank of gas (because hey.. thats the best way to change out a fuel pump )

CRAP.  Undo everything, unbolt the housing, lift if up an inch or so.. hmm.. everything is plugged in.  Maybe I rotated it and the fuel level indicator float got hung up.  Plugged the battery back in, and the indicator came to life (you don't need the ECU for the indicator to work).  Left the car on, tightened everything back up.. and that must have been it.

So.. note:  The fuel lines on the top of the tank have to be pointing straight out from the side of the car.  Not pointing back slightly.  Straight out the side.

Manifold will be here Tuesday!  ;D

Darth, I was wondering what ecu do you plan on using with your turbo setup? I assume that you will not use the Brammo ecu since it is locked out and you cannot tune the car with it.
It's coming along nicely.
cheers

Mav, if you've been paying attention, you know I'm already using a cobalt ECU that I've reprogrammed.  Same as several others on here.

If you haven't been paying attention - Hi!  I'm going to tune my cobalt ECU!

Big progress today.  My friend milled the center spacer on the supercharger delete kit at an angle, and welded it to the base plate - the result is that the throttle body is now angled up, instead of right into the frame.  I have MILES of room now, and everything fits much better.

I put his company's logo on the part, it was the least I could do for the work he did today

Easily clears the frame now

And here is it, with all the harness' plugged in, and the bypass plate bolted on.  Its ready for an intercooler now!

That looks much better.  Great idea  ;)  Is it right side up or still upside down?

Yes, you had a great idea doing that Bolus.  Jeff agreed, and he had the tool to make it a reality.  :tu:

It's right side up, the harness has slack in it... everything worked out the way it was supposed to.

Now, Vulcan has to come through this week with the exhaust manifold to stay on schedule.  Next weekend is the big intercooler/exhaust buildup!

Things are beginning to move quickly now.  Got the manifold today, and the only way the turbo will go on is to have the inlet on the passenger side instead of the drivers side (otherwise it hits the crossover pipe for the water pump).  Which actually is ok, as I have my larger aftercooler tank on the drivers side, and it'll leave more room for the exhaust.

There will be a little bit of a "whoopty" to get the turbo outlet pipe to get it to go down the center of the car, but nothing major

This is my crappy MSpaint rendition of where the intake piping will go.  Inside the frame, outside of the shock, then passing under it to curve around to the intake side of the engine.  If I don't make it this long, I'll have to extend the wires for the MAF sensor (which I'm of mixed feelings on...)

Further out picture, so you can see how things are gonna route

You don't have to mess with the stock harness to extend it. Here is what I did and the same goes for the O2 sensor (and MAP sensor in my car).
