Help with identifying melted connections.

Post by maverick1 » Mon Nov 03, 2008 4:08 am

Can someone please help me identify the connections in this photo?
I believe the red X is the speedo connector which hooks up to the transmission. Looks really toasted to me. How do I go about removing this melted part?
I don't know what the yellow X is connected to. As you can see the plug end is melted as well.
The blue X is some sort of plastic cover, which is also melted. Would I be able to pick it up at a local Chevy dealer? Also, if I remove this cover and replace it, will I loose any fluids?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
So far I have sourced a new Masterlube gauge and oil hose.

cheers

yellow is coolant temp, red is speedo connector.

Is the blue cover severely damaged?  I'd leave it alone if it is not that bad so you dont have to deal with the coolant

You may have to remove speedo switch to get at it or replace all together.

Blue cover item 11 part # 12789738 local dealer or Parts Direct link here

and yes you will get a bath unless you drain using item 3 at water pump.

Here is a pic of the melted speedo connector.
It looks like the wires end in a cap like structure.

The foil wrapped wire that is going from right to left and has the black connector in the middle with the blue captive clips it the oxygen sensor that is at the exhaust manifold collector. Today while trying to finish up some other work on the car, I noticed that this black & blue connector is half melted. To replace it, do I need to replace the entire sensor? Or can I find the connector by itself and spice it in? What kind of connector is it? Is it common? Be assured that when it gets fixed, it will certianly be completely covered with some type of heat shield/wrap.

Mine's half melted too....but..as long as the wiring's good...it still works.

but to answer your question I'm fairly certain that these connectors are specifically used for O2 sensors amongst probably other things...that should give you a place to start.

Then again, a whole new sensor is under $30 on eBay.  Picked up one myself when I damaged the threads on the old one trying to get it out of the header.
