Exhaust Gasket
Exhaust Gasket
So, my exhaust blew a gasket recently.
(I'd say 'this weekend', but I'm honestly not sure when it happend.)
I currently have the 'replacement' Brammo exhaust with two flex pipes.
I'm probably going to get the Hytec exhaust through Shinoo, but that will take a month to be ready.
So, I need to fix my current exhaust.
I need to replace the gasked that goes between the header and the "test pipe".
When I previously replaced this Brammo sent a "super secret & special" gasket to go in there that was quite thick, as was some kind of NASCAR compressed gasket.
I didn't make a note of what part number it was.
Does anyone have any ideas on what part number this is?
OR, replacement gasket suggestions?
Thanks.

(search isnt that good here)

There is something you have to understand about search. It ONLY "searches" from where you Currently ARE. Again, if you are in a sub-forum area it ONLY searches that specific area. Want better results? Back out to the top of the forum (click the Home button) then type your search into the box. Simple as that. Try it, you'll see.

Re: Exhaust Gasket
The second gasket (copper one) that Bolus has listed doesn't work. I ordered it and returned it because it didn't fit. The inside diameter is the correct size, but the outside of the gasket is way too big.

You can bend down the edges. It fits for me; however, I have blown out the copper gasket as well.

Re: Exhaust Gasket
wow, you blew out a copper gasket? The exhaust is really too restrictive on these cars
Re: Exhaust Gasket
I believe the reason the gaskets actually blow out is the inner diameter is not 100% perfectly centered when you torque it down, therefore the gasket is in the way of hot gasses and burns up.....if the exhaust was built to better tolerances, this problem would not occur because the gaskets would not be subjected to the exhaust gas so directly.
Re: Exhaust Gasket
Well, I just hope that the copper gasket lasts a week.
My parents are visiting, and my mother needs to get the ride of her life.
Not that I would ever attempt to scare my mother...

Re: Exhaust Gasket
I got the copper gaskets and took everything apart.
Which was fun in of itself, as the bolts are so hard to access, and always jam.
I ended up cutting one of them off, and stripping another.
Luckily I had spare bolts.
And nuts.
Other than that, the project took a couple of hours, and I got to take my Dad for a drive.
My mother will be next in a day or two.

Re: Exhaust Gasket
How's the fit of that copper gasket?
The exhaust nuts are one time use anyway

Re: Exhaust Gasket
Does anyone know the specification for the exhaust nuts? I'd like to order replacements for those at the same time.
Thanks,

The copper gasket is much larger than the outside of the flange, but the interior seems close.
So, it kinda works.
I'm not too concerned about it as I plan on replacing it all soon.
