Radiator Fluids

Post by rfmarz@frontiernet » Sat Apr 26, 2008 11:26 pm

Under the air intake cover lies the radiator tank. Does filling this tank keep both the engine cooling radiator AND the aftercooler radiator full? Or, is there another source for each radiator? Has anybody looked closely at the aftercooler rad? It would appear that placing it to the front of the engine cooler rad would allow it to get FAR more cooling air especially when moving quickly.

the aftercooler filler is behind the little hatch between the seats.  worth checking to make sure there is fluid in there :)

Bolus is correct. Check your aftercooler fluid! With the 5psi cap, fluid heats up, expands and spills out. Once it cools it retreats to a level below the T (you'll see it when you refill it). When it gets below the T, you get air bubbles in your lines.

I wondered why I couldn't get any more than 150 mph out of it.

Just add a little Evian Water... or FIJI botteled water works good to. I guarantee you'll hit at least 152!  ;)

Another question is; do you all use the "GM" antifreeze when replenishing the coolants?

For the Aftercooler fluid, I used one bottle of Water Wetter and the rest Distilled Water. For the Radiator, I used one bottle of Water Wetter and equal ammount of anti-freeze (generic from VatoZone), and then the rest Distilled Water.

My estimation is about 2 gallons (engine coolant)- incl. engine case, all lines and main radiator/overflow tank.

The Brammo manual says 2.75 gallons.

The supercharger after cooler coolant :  2in below the filler cap when hot.

[/quote]If you're dry and you're filling it up, do it while the engine is idling.  Keep adding until all the bubbles get out.
I did this for about 10 minutes as bubbles keep coming up.
