Torque on suspension bolts
Torque on suspension bolts
Anyone know what the torque for this bolt is on the lower suspension arm on the front of the car?
Looks like it has loosened but for the life of me I cant tighten it anymore.

Re: Torque on suspension bolts
The UK manual suggests 60Nm for the inboard suspension (1/2"). I think that this refers to the bolt that you are showing here.

bolus, I proclaim thee "Torque Man," keeper of rotational force.
Re: Torque on suspension bolts
maybe it's been tightened PAST the previous torque on it. Thus the marks not aligning...
Re: Torque on suspension bolts
How can Bolus, with is 250+ ft lb torqe wrench NOT get enough torque on this???
Re: Torque on suspension bolts
My wrench goes to 250 but my arms only go to about 60ft lbs. I need to work out.

Ah my dear friend, that is what leverage is for!

By more than 270 degrees?

Re: Torque on suspension bolts
response from Tom:
The torque for that suspension bolt is 70 lb. ft.
I would change that nylon lock nut, torque it and paint mark it.

Re: Torque on suspension bolts
maybe someone forgot to put the washer in between afterwards....?
Re: Torque on suspension bolts
OK guys, how the hell am I supposed to torque this one without removing the aftercooler
The paint line moved but there is no way I can get a torque wrench on either side. It is a cm from the tub on the nut side and 2 cm from the aftercooler line on the hex side. (front of car driver side lower suspension arm)

Re: Torque on suspension bolts
Yeah, I'll be looking down at the pedals someday and see a bolt working its way through the the wall of the tub
Re: Torque on suspension bolts
No, the hose is not flexible enough to get a hex adapter onto my torque wrench on the other side either. Both sides have small clearances. . I need some sort of adapter for the torque wrench to use a regular flat wrench. I guess it is a reason to go to sears
