Towing an Atom
Towing an Atom
My dodge charger has a 2000lb towing capacity- Will I have trouble towing an atom on a trailer?
Re: Towing an Atom
Depends on the trailer. My 18' car hauler is about 1,800# by itself. There are lightweight trailers that would easily handle the Atom though.

Re: Towing an Atom
Do you know any specific makes of lightweight trailers I should look at?
Re: Towing an Atom
I am now thinking of a Tow dolly- I wonder if the atom would fit on one with no problem
Re: Towing an Atom
what does oh no mean- I dont want to get a truck and the atom is only 1300lb
Re: Towing an Atom
let me take few pics of rear view and let u see u how u plan to drag your atom on
beside..
Capacity
* Max load: 3,450 lbs. when towing a front-wheel or rear-wheel drive vehicle, 3,900 lbs. when towing a rear-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicle
* Empty weight: 650 lbs.
why not just rent truck and trailer?

Too much hassle to rent one everytime I go to the track- maybe a tow bar will work. I know its nasty but if I get a truck that will be 5 cars vying for a spot in my one car garage

[/quote]There's no rear overhang on the Atom, depends on how high you're going lift the front up, I don't see you'll have problems with ground clearance.

Re: Towing an Atom
That Silverado is definetly a way NOT to go. Hodges is the best though. Would be perfect for a lightweight Atom to do it with a 1/2 ton or the like but last I talked to them they prefer 1 ton duallys or better for their Ramp Trucks. Me, I wouldn't do it at all unless it's a turbo diesel like a Dodge. imo, the inline 6 on the Dodge puts the Ford and Chevy V8 TD's to shame.
And there's no tire or tranny wear by using a tow dolly.
