Brake problem

Post by maverick1 » Mon Dec 27, 2010 9:25 pm

I changed my brake pads today and when I hopped into the car and pushed down on the brake pedal the entire assembly felt loose.
I have the Wilwood track brake package with the brake bias adjuster.
When I reached down to where the brake bias adjuster and pedal attach I could rock up and down the entire assembly.
Can someone please check their cars and let me know if this is normal?
I also noticed a gap between where the threaded bolt of the bias adjuster runs through where all the pedals attach.
took some pics
Anyone know if there should be a nut where my finger is pointing?
I'll try and take a video and post it to show you guys what the problem is.

they are very loose and wobble all about, that's normal

they also make a chingy noise like change clapping as you tap on the pedal from the washers hitting each other.

Mine has a "missing" nut on one side too....but I can't remember if that was normal, you can always add one or 2 nuts on that side to prevent any potential disasters.

Thanks so much silver.
Thought I was loosing it for a moment.
I downloaded a video which shows more clearly what I was concerned with.

It looks like you have a remote bias adjuster attached. If so, you should not have a nut on the other side. If you don't have a bias adjuster, then you are missing the balance bar lock nut.

to get specific on that nut.

if you do have the brake bias adjuster like MAV, then you only have the nut /cable on the passenger side.

if you don't have the bias adjuster, where should the nut be...or should there be 2?

Only one nut; it goes on whichever side is more convenient for you to access (left side for LHD cars, right side for RHD cars).

^What Karl said.Don't add a nut, as it will only interfere with the proper operation of the shaft. There is no danger of the shaft ever coming out,as it is threaded into both cylinder rod nuts. If the pedal feels normal for application pressure, fuggadaboutit!  I can't believe you made a video..:)

Hey, brakes are a very important safety system of the car.
I'd rather be safe than sorry when brakes are concerned.
I'm a shade tree mechanic not a professional.
Still learning.

Also you should know that in LHD Atoms, the bias bar bolt inboard end hass a hex socket that you'd use to reposition (rotate) the rod that moves the nut within.
