Re: where is the starter on the ecotec
I assume you mean the starter motor - we don't give away information on how to start the car on the public areas of this forum. If you do mean the starter, please use the clubroom

Re: where is the starter on the ecotec
sorry I dont mean to ask how to start the car...
I was looking for the physical location on the GM motor.
since then I have been told its by the fuel tank below. I asked this because the spindex went out on mine yesterday.

You mean bendix? Regardless, easy enough to rebuild or replace. Last starter that went out on my daily driver sedan (LT1-V8) I upgraded from the AC Delco part to a Nippon (originally a Vette part). Much higher quality starter, smaller and more torque. Any Chevy or Pontiac dealer should be able to get you a replacement starter for the Ecotec.
Re: where is the starter on the ecotec
great. thx. Ya mine went out saturday on the ariel. Strange how these little things keep happening. At least it can be push started. brammo stepped up AGAIN to the plate. will send out replacement. It getting to the starter that will be challenging.
FYI ....nothing is simple to do on the atom....nothing. even if it seems like a quick job....add an hour.
We will be the only "Authorized Ariel Atom Service Center in Northern California" after all the repairs I have done.
Love the car and Im slowly building my tool supply!

Gee I am glad you solved that.
I thought it was at the front......

Now this is what happens when nobody posts any good jokes on Friday.

Re: where is the starter on the ecotec
Here, it's Thursday...
Are any of you old enough to have started an engine like that?
I remember starting my dad's car up - nearly took my wrist off! For fun, I have tried starting my Alvis with a hand crank, but a 3 litre engine with reasonably good compression is a bitch! Even when it's warm...

Its still Thursday here too, PM.
I meant 1 Sept.
When I was younger a freind's father had vintage cars.
I have heard some stories about large guys who have flown short distances.

Like kicking an old Indian (the bike not the Redskin) and it kicking back throwing you off the bike or breaking your foot. Never a fun time that.

Re: where is the starter on the ecotec
I'm not gonna touch that one.
Anyway.... I think I just thought of something else I'd like to see from Brammo. The option to have bolts that have a hole drilled in them for safety wiring.

I notice the comment above and also remember a mention of body parts falling of the MK1 in an earlier topic

Apart from the obvious improvement of moving to Honda power from Rover power, most of the other changes were evolutional and designed to make them easier to live with - e.g. the new airbox design, and lower chassis hoop that goes with it, vertically rather than horizontally mounted radiator, mudguards that don't fall off as opposed to mudguards that do, etc, etc.

How much of a problem is vibration with both the driving experience and the need for additional maintenance?
