Brammo Atom 2 Essentials thread

Post by silver » Mon Jun 01, 2009 3:33 am

Goals of this thread.

1:  bring posts that have been buried back to life so everyone can benefit especially new users of the forum
2:  The search only works if you know what to search for, this will allow you to read the most important topics to get your Brammo Atom up to snuff
3:  hopefully a mod will make this a sticky and then this thread won't get buried.
4:  I'll update this thread as often as necessary so that we continue to keep the links to important threads alive.
5:  Some of the threads started out as a different topic then evolved into very important subjects thus I'm trying to post links to the point of the thread that's most important.

So here goes...........

Add these:

* Check your fuel filler and sender gaskets - these WILL gum up your pump socks and fuel filter. http://forum.atomclub.com/index.php/topic,9025.0.html
* Rod end replacements - although the discount is no longer valid, all of the part numbers are. http://forum.atomclub.com/index.php/top ... .html  DEFINITELY replace if you have the gold-colored SP*-*T parts with the distinctive casting "waistline".

I agree about a sticky.  you admins never sticky anything.  What do you have to do around here to get a sticky?

Agreed - equally essential for future buyers such as myself to compile vehicle history questions.

Suggestions:
Should the initial Brammo accordian air intake be mentioned, or have they pretty much all been replaced?

A reference to limp mode might keep a new owner from panicking.

In the spirit of 'essentials', I would suggest grouping "things that might break" first, and enhancement items like MIL and power issues second.

To go with the power discussions - a primer on Brammo ECU tunes and alternatives, and an explanation of the Brammo 300 "fix".

For item 6. Safety washers...
A heads up to not try and follow the entire topic 8194 thread because the topic originator deleted his posts.

[Duplicated here from the "Dyno results for my 205HP Ecotec" thread so it is more likely people will find it when they need it]

The folks over at Crate Engine Depot have posted scans of the illustrated parts breakdowns for the LSJ engine. The direct link is here, though that may go dead (find it on page 2 of "Top > Engine Components > Ecotec & 4-Cyl Components > Cobalt LSJ Engine Parts Listings").

Of course, before I found that web reference, I set up the complete Microcat system here:

Here is another option for rod end replacement which actually has another benefit of reinforcing the entire thimble opening. It's an extended shank rod end which has a radial failure static load rating: 19,751 lbs. https://steinjager.com/shop/index.php?r ... t_id=40198
