Road trophy -- number plate!
Road trophy -- number plate!
Does anyone know what the factory tape / foam is used for holding the rear number plate? - I used some fairly good (or so I thought Patex) stuff but after a spirited drive in reasonable cross wind I'm now missing my rear number plate!
Any tips, warmly received as always!
Cheers.

Re: Road trophy -- number plate!
In my experience rear numberplate problems have always been heat related due to the close proximity of the exhaust.
I finally sorted it by using aircraft grade heat resistant aluminium double-sided tape.

To combat the heat problem which warped my previous plate, I put seveal layers of aluminium foil plumber's tape (c£6) on the back of the new plate and held it on with double sided glaziers tape (which I bought to reglaze my greenhouse). 18 months later and 4000 miles, it is as good as new.

Having lost my rear number plate (then retraced my 'steps' and found it!) I resorted to drilling through the plate and mounted it with one black and one yellow number plate screw, discreetly placed (you can hardly tell) - it'll never fall off again...

Thanks for the tips!
I guessed it was heat related too, the exhaust area gets crazy hot! I think the aluminium foil / tape sounds like the ticket, I covered the back of mine in faux gold (I know, sorry) but it’s obviously not doing a great job.......

Re: Road trophy -- number plate!
I replaced the number plate on my Atom 4 with a 4d plate and used 3m vhb, so far so good. This stuff just comes off very easily if needed.
Re: Road trophy -- number plate!
Quick update - went with the 3M VHB tape in the end, smells a bit funky when applied but seems to stick like crazy when fully cured. Fingers crossed it’s the last time I need it!
