Brake Light Switch change

Post by Curves Junkie » Wed Mar 02, 2016 8:35 pm

My Brake light switch is without function.

So I made a Forum and Web search but I get not the correct answer for me.
In my atom builted Tilton master cylinder 74-Series http://tiltonracing.com/product/74-series-master-cylinder-kits/

Now I will change the pressure switch but I don't know the correct size.
Here in Germany I found a switch here http://www.probrake.de/Bremslichtschalter_1 but with is the correct?
10 x 1.00 mm or
10 x 1.25 mm or
UNF 3/8 Zoll

Thx for help.

Atom has Goodridge switch https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/goodridge-3-8unf-banjo-bolt-with-brake-light-switch-g-bl775-03c

You must press brake hard for pressure switch to function

Thx you made my day.  ;D
Brake hard on road - not so a good idea.
Maybe it's better to find a better solution.

@smokin thx for this tip.
I think a solution like that is much more better than a pressure switch.

Hähä, ja weis noch nicht wie ich das umsetzen soll, da ich nicht so der Basteltyp bin.

Is it really the brake light switch that is without any function or does it only need a proper brake bleeding? Maybe bubbles or to much moisture in the brake fluid.

I have done my yearly brake fluid change and just a gentle tap on the brake pedal activates the brake lights. the pedal must be firm.

Actually it is quite simple. The detailed description may let it appear to be a lot of work, but it does not take too long. If you like I can prepare one for you. You would only need to connect the wires and probably adjust the bending of the aluminium plate.

No, the pressure switch is in function but I have to press the pedal really hard than the brake light gets on.

The moisture is 1% and yes I had read in the internet too that little air bubbles can be the cause. I will change all fluids in the near future.
The second factor is that braking softly the main cylinder for the rear brake brakes the car first and the switch is built on the front cylinder.
Whatever I think a electrical solution directly mounted at the brake pedal is the best for the braking light.

WOW, that sounds good.
I will be glad if you can prepare one for me - but I prefer a waterproof switch because I had a lot of electrical problems in the past with my sidecar when it was raining.
Here I found the waterproof Honeywell switch V15W https://www.buerklin.com/de/katalog/Miniatur-Schnappschalter-Typ-Honeywell-V15W-G305670.html the last one with the order-no: 13 G 1158 will be the best because the cables are integrated. I'm confused about this modell I can order two different items - 2-cable or 3-cable

Sounds like a normal Atom to me... But the switch fails slowly, so replacing it is probably sensible.

Or as Google translate would have it:

Klingt wie ein normales Atom mir ... Aber der Schalter ausfällt langsam, so dass es zu ersetzen ist wahrscheinlich sinnvoll .

The 3 cable version would work anyway, but one of the cables would be needless in the end.
For a 2 cable version you would need the execution, that the switch opens when you press it.
