I was wanting to go to this but double booked with a local 1/4 mile event.

Is this the best place for my 1st track day?  also do you get insurance.  I looked at it for Oulton Park but it was £400 and £4500 excess for the day.

Bedford was my 2nd track day experience after Rockingham, and i found bedford a lot safer to learn
There is no wall to hit, lots of space to run off if necessary and overtake

In my opinion it is not the most interesting track but is one of the best to learn (from my limited experience)

In terms of insurance, i do not insure my car while on track

It is a great place for your first track day. Lots of different sorts of corners to try and see how the car feels in different circumstances. Having nothing to hit for most of the lap is a big advantage too on your first day. You can just concentrate on driving :)
