Track Day Silencers

Post by Craig Sams » Sun Nov 09, 2014 5:00 pm

I'm hoping to do a Trackday at Croft with my AA3.5 Supercharged, it has an 88db noise limit, currently its coming out at 93db, any advice simple clip on silencers which would do the trick?

At what rpm are you getting 93 Craig?

That's 1k more than I ever rev to when they test.

Don't know how variable the testers are but usually they either (a) ask me for 3/4 of red line and I give them 5k or (b) they ask me where the red line is and I fib and tell them 7k - they then ask for 5 or 5.5.

My AA2 puts out circa 92 at 5.5k and if it's close to the limit and they have drive by mics they point them out and suggest I lift a little as I pass ;-)

Never been refused or black flagged but then I avoid tracks with low limits.

If you have trouble with their testing ask for a 2m test at the side as a rear test can pick up engine noise as well as exhaust (see here) http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5&Itemid=22

Maybe I was too honest with the redline, I'll tell them its 4,000 rpm then 2/3rds puts it down to tick over. Ive sent a couple of enquiries to some specialist exhaust manufactures.

Some say the wail of the supercharger causes more of a problem with noise than the exhaust.
