Tow Car Thread
Hi all,
For those of you who tow your Atom's to the track what do you tow with?
I know some of you drive your Atom's to and from trackdays but for me that s impossible as i can't get in my Atom with my prosthetic leg on so need a tow car plus somewhere to put all my tools and spare wheels, fuel and tyres etc
So heres mine. 2001 Ford F150 Lightning on LPG with 400+BHP

Re: Tow Car Thread
Been toying with going that route ( tow car and trailer) or hiring a transporter per event but am now looking at getting one or two sets of wheels stored by a track side support outfit that attend track days who will bring the wheels and fit as required allowing me to drive to and from
Can't see that being the long term solution and when I change my Cooper S I'll look long and hard at something offering a tow option so interested in what others are using to tow Atoms

I reckon the best tow car is a vw phaeton. 4x4, every toy and cheap as chips when used...

Re: Tow Car Thread
I know that a former owner local to me used a 2001 BMW 330 in conjunction with an aluminum flatbed trailer. He said it worked well and got reasonably good (for a tow car) gas mileage, to boot!

What about a Cummins big block diesel with 1500ft lbs tq and 2 bathrooms

Or a 4x4 F350 crew cab with a 7.6ltr V8

Calscot... I've just noticed the 475 sticker on your Atom. I take it that means 475BHP. Spec please

Hi Darren,
You are almost correct. it's 475 WHP
I typically run it with a de-tuned "pump" fuel map, which dynoed out at 425WHP. The 475 number was on 110 leaded race fuel and the race muffler, which is way too loud to run on the streets. Although I do occasionally take it out that way when I'm feeling extra daft.
It started off as a 220 and I modified it in stages. Each time I got better and learned more as I blew things up and broke stuff. It's now in a pretty "happy" place where I seem to be able to thrash it and it's holding together pretty good. Most of the local owners can testify to how fast it is on street driving where it typically can leave an Atom 3 S/C 300 like it's a old truck in the rear view mirror. It's mental fast!

Pete, last night I happened to watch the Edmunds video review that your Atom was in way-back-when. That review seems to quote a mix of stock performance numbers (2.8 0-60) and numbers from your car (1/4 mile in 10.xx and 12x MPH).
Have you ever timed your more recent mods?
