Avon's advice please

Post by Track Boy » Thu Jul 05, 2012 9:34 am

HI Gents
I have the standard factory Dymags, running slicks. I am buying a new set of Avon's today, my question is can I fit the 240 600 16 on the rear's, they recommend the 210 600s but I have seen at least one Atom runnign the 240.
I am sure the extra 30mm on rubber will help with the rear traction and braking, but will it fit safely on the wheel?

Thanks

Hi i have run Avon Slicks on my Atom for the last 4 years.

That is all i ever run and it is the 210 rear that is correct for the 8"x 16" rear.

It use to be called a 230 but infact it was always a 210.

I am advised that that size rim will NOT take the larger tyre you mentioned.

http://www.avonmotorsport.com/motorsport/radial/16-radial-slick

The above link is to Avon Motorsport website where although they mention the 240 fitting a 8" rim it actually suggests using a 9.5" rim.

Always been told better if tyre stretched on rim rather than pulled in by it.

Hope this helps.

I have also just bought a set of Dunlop Slicks to try but not fitted yet.

Cheers

As an aside ..

In my view, nothing looks worse than someone who's bought some wide wheels but cannot afford the right size tyres to fit them !

Avon and the Factory (Ariel) are both out of the Avon rears, Avon will not be making another batch for 6 to 8 weeks, cant find any in the uk anywhere.
Cant find anyone to sell me some Pirelli's, hen's teeth!

I see from the Dunlop website that they are making 235 16s for the Radical, I will give that a try if they have any. Anyone tried these?

I have bought a set of fronts from Avon, they have these in stock.
