3.5R Insurance
3.5R Insurance
The log book for the 3.5R just states 3.5.
Are the insurance companies aware of the difference or have the owners just got them isured as 3.5?

Re: 3.5R Insurance
Surely that's up to the individual driver to advise the insurance company of the exact specification, else they won't pay out in the event of a claim.

Re: 3.5R Insurance
What I meant was that since the log book doesnt say 3.5R and thus the "3.5R" isn't the offical name, does the insurance company get told it's a 3.5 that's been modified by the factory to the spec of the "R" or do you just tell the insurance company it's a "3.5R" that's not been modified. What I was trying to understand was if I went with the latter would the fact that on the log book it's listed as a 3.5 and not a 3.5R likely to cause any issues in the event of a claim?John Scherrer wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 5:38 pm Surely that's up to the individual driver to advise the insurance company of the exact specification, else they won't pay out in the event of a claim.

Re: 3.5R Insurance
I get your thinking... but is a 3.5R really much more than a 3.5 with some bolt ons?
autobackup for example has had his crashed (not his fault!) car rebuilt to 3.5R spec. It's for all intents and purposes a 3.5R, you could go to Ariel and hand over a large sum, and what you'd drive away is to all intents a 3.5R.
In my head this isn't any different to the supercharger, you declare it. Same for the new motor.
If what Autobackup did wasn't possible, or if the R'ing of a 3.5 required substantially different chassis or a different engine, I'd be with you on the v5. But in my eyes, it isn't.

Re: 3.5R Insurance
The 3.5 and 3.5R chassis is the same, so I’ve been told by the factory boys.
As for insurance, it’s an interesting point. You’d normally declare the value anyway.
There are 3.5R’s with Sadev’s, some upgraded 3.5’s with just the pods, some with Ohlins, a few with Intrax, and some with carbon panels etc
An agreed valuation seems the only way?

Re: 3.5R Insurance
i think it is correct to insure as a 3.5 with the correct options value. as it is nothing more than options, I can have those options fitted at any time without having to inform the insurer, only the bolt on options aren't insured
Re: 3.5R Insurance
I’d be careful doing that, were I you. Insurers are quite creative when it comes to avoiding claims.

Anyone with a 3.5R insured in the UK know for sure?

I think the “problem” - such as it is - only arises come the time one claims. That’s why you need to be careful.

Re: 3.5R Insurance
Agreed value - check
But insurance is all about risk - in their eyes you're typically more likely to claim if it's got go faster bits.
Expensive reversing cameras etc don't add to that part of the risk ..

Agreed value on an Atom?
How many owners have that? Not easy to get.

Re: 3.5R Insurance
I didn't bother when I bought your Nomad, since they wanted oodles of pictures, details of who'd installed what, when etc.
It'd be like going over a car like mine with a fine toothed comb, and you know as well as I how much it departed from "base" spec.
I went instead with "Market Value", which given the small number of cars, the strong residuals etc. isn't as risky as say a heavily modded but essentially unique corsa, where there's a big danger it'd be valued as a standard corsa as mods don't add value.
Re: 3.5R Insurance
Good for you. I’m simply pointing out that, for most owners, it isn’t.
