Temp readout reset

Post by Nick C » Wed Oct 02, 2019 9:04 pm

Hi all...
Had the engine out for a new clutch, all back together and running fine. But the temp readout is wrong.. in fact it reads -80...!
The radiator fan kicks in as normal, so no issues on the cooling side.

My question is, how do I access the digital dash settings to calibrate it. .

TIA.

Nick

Here's a link showing the SPA Dash 2 manual download.

I'd be surprised if it's a calibration issue though.

Edit: Just realised, yours is the Dash 1
The online help part may help though ..

Here's a link to the SPA Kit Dash manual that should be your model :-

I think there's two water temperature sensors used. The one used for the temperature readout for the dash is on top of the engine block and you can access it quite easily. It's a brass sensor with a light blue plastic collar off the top of my head. It's the standard mgf sensor and you can buy a replacement off fleabay for a few quid.

The spa dash reads the temperature by measuring a change in resistance. If you have a voltmeter you can try seeing if the resistance changes at the pin in the plug at the back of the dash. I think it's pin 17 in the connector.

-80 is just the default readout when it's not getting a signal. It won't be a calibration issue. It's either the sensor itself or the wiring to it. Or the sensor might simply not be plugged in.

Hi... thanks guys for the reply.
This is why I love forums.
And HAMTT, you were spot on. Great bit of diagnosis thank you.
Although the dash readout temp sensor plug was in place, it was not pushed home 100%. Soon as I pushed and it clicked in, the water temp readout was back and spot on....

👍😬
